Hi all,

I need to change the tyres on my turbo. It's been on Potenza re50a(N1) for the 4 years I've owned it and fancying a change as all 4 need doing at the same time. The newest N rated tyre I can find if the Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

The question is, do I need N rated given my car has no warranty. For the same price as the PS2(N2) I can get the very highly rated PS4s. Has anyone tried these on a 997?

Oh, and I'll also need new discs and pads all around soon - been quoted £988 - does that sound about right? Apparently also need new wear sensors - is that normal at each disc change?

Cheers

As you are out of warranty, the tyres just have meet the OEM spec i.e. size, load index, speed rating, etc.

You only need to fit N-rated tyres if you are trying to get a Porsche warranty on the car or car is under warranty already. In the latter case it might only be a problem if Porsche see the car for a warranty claim and think non N-rated tyres might be a get out clause.

Thanks - That was as I thought thumbup

In that case just a question of whether the PS4s will be better than the Potenza's?

Cannot comment on tyre choice but have read good things about the PS4S, my 911 is under warranty and needing new fronts so looking at the PS2 as not a fan of the N-rated Pirelli tyres fitted.

Don’t bother with N rated

£1000 sounds pretty damn good for discs and pads all round (fitted)

Thanks. Good to know. I thought I'd read that someone had them done for £600 but perhaps that was parts only?

PS4S all day long, if you don’t require Porsche Warranty friendly N rated Tyres.

By most accounts the PS4S is the only way to go. I can’t wait for my P Zeros to wear out on my 997.2 turbo so I can give them a go.

By way of update. Swapped out the Potenzas for the PS4S a few days ago.

Very impressed so far, feel very sure footed on the greasy roads and tyre noise seems a lot less intrusive. Hoping to get some dry weather to really test them out over the weekend.

Seem to make the car look a lot better as well! I think it’s the very pronounced outer tread pattern wink

Maybe but suspect parts could be more. Sounds like fitting pads not discs

Did you get an OPC quote?

My local indi charges £1400 for new discs & pads all round. Just looking at car parts 4 less, the parts come to £450ish

Thanks. Good to have a benchmark. I think my quote was rear only frown

Also been quoted £966 inc to replace rear lower wishbones (coffin arms) - anyone had this done for a comparative quote?

Thats worth knowing, may wait to change the tyres before investing in a DSC PASM box then.
Mine was great in France last week but not great on our crap tarmac!
