BUILDING A 2.7 RS REPLICA
Discussion
I have decieded to build a 2.7 RS replica, although it wont be an exact copy as I would like it to have a bit more power and run with perhaps a 3.2 engine, getting the car bodily right isnt a problem, but I need to know how easy it is to put in a 3.2 engine and 915 box into a 1970 2.2 body, or has anybody else got any ideas of a drivetrain conversion that will make a good track day/weekend car..........I would love a 2.8 engine but that is out of budget, so something sensible ££ pls...
Matt
Always fancied doing that myself Matt. I know that a 3.6 can be fitted, but I'm guessing that the 3.2 is perhaps the easier option as the position of the engine mounts and physical dimensions of the engine ought to make this straightforward. You'll need RS flares for the rear wings, of course...
I guess that the likes of Neil Bainbridge and Bob Watson will be the right people for you to talk to and there's always Autofarm - they're bound to have done this type of conversion.
FWIW If I were building an RS rep, I'd buy an impact bumper shell as my basis - already has the flared arches that are nearly correct and also has a galvanised tub and hopefully an engine in situ.

Well far easier to start with a later car but still...

Worth speaking to Nick at early911.co.uk, he knows his stuff on the early cars. Has my 911E in at the moment for a full respray, body restoration, top end rebuild etc...
A friend of mine - Alan Drayson, based down in Bournemouth has just put a 3.2 engine into a 1970 T - taken him a while, but he believes its the first that's been done in the UK. Great guy, really worth talking through with before you start. You can find him through the www.ddk-online.co.uk site as Alan.UK or his e-mail is adrayson@bmth.ac.uk as long as it hasn't changed since he started a new company. Tell him I recomended speaking to him...
Good luck on the conversion - will be a beauty when its finished. I only have 140hp in mine, but the delicacy and lack of substantial rubber (185s on 14 inch wheels) means its a really lively drive... Missing it loads at the moment, although my girlfriends MX5 does make up a little at the weekends.
