Start fasting tomorrow for Ramadan, anyone else taking part?

I’m going to try! Have meant to for a few years, and I probably would have missed the start of it wasn’t for your post. I’ll likely manage a few days...

Good on you, let me know if you need any tips?
I’m looking forward to Tuesday, will be a lot easier when I’m back at work. Tend to find the weekends are more difficult as you have more time on your hands, where as when at work the day flies by.

It’s the irregular sleep patterns that I find the most difficult.

Fortunately my current role allows me to work from home whenever I like so that helps a lot.

Lots of water for me, and trying not to binge on the fried stuff in the evenings smile

Hats off to all you that are observing Ramadan.
I know I would struggle like mad, which I suppose is the point.

Good luck to you all.

Seems a bit unfair that’s it’s been falling towards the middle of the year with the light nights!

Yep, it's Ramadan again.

Like most of neighbours we are starting to lock our gates again and be more careful with our things. No more leaving helmets on the bike handles when popping in to the shops.

Neighbours are locking pushbikes up etc etc..

Fantastic.rolleyes

I live in Indonesia. At the start of every Ramadan poorer Muslims will steal whatever they can get their hands on. They are aiming to get enough money to return to their home town and/or show off by giving presents and providing food.

Rest of the year where I live is pretty much crime free.

Embassies in Jakarta issue warnings, it's so bad.

Had a couple of burglaries here last year. Couple down the road caught one guy and gave him a bit of a kicking..passed on the local security who added to the kicking and then the Police. Quite funny but when they caught him after having to kick down their own bathroom door - he was praying loudly to allah.

At one place of employment the boss observed Ramadan. Chatting to him about it he found the first few days difficult but soon adapted, easier as his children are now adults. At the end of Ramadan he found getting back in to a breakfast/lunch/dinner routine a bit tricky, but again soon adapted. Occasionally it would be necessary to have lunch with customers for which he would seek an exemption from the fast for that meal. It got me thinking, apart from the young/elderly/ill/pregnant are there any other exemptions?

I think that's all of them. Technically you're supposed to do catch up fasts or, alternatively, you can pay something called Fidya (payment in lieu of fasting)

Yep - first few days are the worst, and weekends are worse because you're not mentally as busy with work.

Exempt due to illness. You can pay the tax instead.

Depends if they're T1 or T2.

Some people with T2 diabetes use periods of fasting all year round.
