10-12k quandary .....
Discussion
Morning all.....after some views if you please
So, we want to spend £10-12k on a car to cover all family duties for the next year - 18months.
We do 3-5k miles max.
Needs to be automatic.
We are looking for something prestigious (ish) so German features highly.
Looking for minimal depreciation (appreciate this is a bit finger in the air), and reasonable running costs.
So far we have come up with (in no particular order)
Merc Ml350 2010/11 circa 50-60k miles
Audi Q5 2011/12 circa 60-70k miles
Infinity FX 3.0d 2012/13 circa 50-70k miles
BMW 4-Series gran sport 2013/14 circa 80k miles
Audi A5 sportback 2011/12 circa 60k miles
Jaguars XE R sport 2014ish circa 50k miles
Opinions / thoughts on any of the above greatly appreciated
And if I have missed anything please throw up some ideas
Thanks all

Look up table of fastest depreciating cars. The top 4 are all German.
Look up a table of slowest depreciating used cars. No Germans at all.
Consider also that German cars cost more to maintain, are less reliable, and are arguably deeply unfashionable amongst the under 40s.

OP,
From your list, I’d go 4 Series.
It’s still ‘current model’ and is the best driving car on the list by some margin.
Many of the cars on your list are simply old, not very good and likely to go wrong and throw big repair bills - wouldn’t touch the Mercedes ML or the hideous Infiniti with a barge pole.

Needs an MoT next month
£570 annual road tax
Not many people like petrol SUV unless AMG/ fast others
Infiniti ceasing sales in UK
An interesting quandary as I am looking at a similar price point, but will be doing 10-12k miles per annum. I am contemplating similar short term ownership as I'm starting a new job and coming out of a company car, I would ideally spend more on a 'keeper' but don't want to commit immediately as want to get better idea of job, mileage and car use.
My random shortlist:
Audi A4 Allroad, A6 avant and A7
BMW 4 series, X3, 520d touring, 320d Xdrive
Merc CLS
VW Touareg
A4 Allroad current top of list.
