Being into cars and bikes doesn't automatically mean a love of speed. There's a thriving bubble / micro car scene, a Honda C90 scene, a Honda Monkey bike scene etc.etc. Very few I worked with were. We had a force motoring club populated mainly by traffic officers. I had a mate who raced vintage motorbikes. The majority of the others, including the class 1's ran normal family cars and just treated the works cars as a means of getting around and from getting from A to B quickly and safely when the need arose.

I used to go on ride outs with groups, including Police officers.
Lots of them are bikers.
They adhered strictly to the limits around town, but went as fast as everyone else out of town.
Moaned a bit about small number plates.
Told us horrid stories about what they'd had to deal with on the road.
But were just as into their bikes as everyone else.

I bought my tweeked volvo s 70t5 from a police Sargent driving instructor.
I also did a lot of driver training with a friend who was also a police drivers trainer with Thames Valley way back in the late 70s and early 80s .
I also did a couple of driving courses for anti kidnapping and aviodance driving thatbwas run by ex police officers . They were very interested in the skills that I had learned doing short circuit racing.

Paid to ride fast bikes, or cars on blues/twos all day. It was great if you loved riding/driving.Red 4 said:

I went riding with a group of coppers last summer, mates of my neighbour who is a PC.
They all went balls out - faster than I would normally ride on the road - I guess a warrant card in the wallet gives a certain amount of reassurance, but they knew where mobile cameras were likely to be so knocked it off there.
Must admit that I felt slightly nervous knowing that the bloke on the Z1000 behind me was a serving traffic cop but happy to be doing 100mph a few inches off my back wheel.
