Daily driver and occasional tugger?
Discussion
Hi all
My ageing old Honda Accord estate is starting to show signs of bowing out of duties after much abuse over the years. So of course the eyes start to wander around the classifieds.
It gets used as my daily, covering about 15k a year to the station/ football matches and school runs. It’s the tip run car and also rows the small trailer I have and 4/5 times a year it tows a 1300kg caravan. The latter of which it’s not particularly competent at.
I’ve got a 996 in the garage for weekends which weighs in at 1300kg, it would be nice to have the option to tow it to track days, a trailer comes in under 1100kg, so I guess it might be expected to tow up to 2400kg in the future. If the 996 goes it’ll be replaced with a catherham or similar.
I will be doing my B+E soon for sure.
I don’t see many estates with 2500kg capacity, except perhaps an allroad? I think I’m into big 4x4 territory here?
I’d like to spend around £5k, but could stretch to £8k max for the right car. I need it to be 2005 or newer (private plate) but other than that I’m easy. Reliability would be nice but I’m drawn to JLR products a lot so maybe I don’t care that much?! I’ve not considered the pickup options because I don’t think they are that refined for car use, unless someone wants to convince me otherwise?
Options I’ve looked at:-
Disco 3/ RRS in TDV6 flavour
FFRR TDV8
Jeep Cherokee with the merc 3.0 diesel
Nissan Pathfinder
Land cruiser LC4 (tend to be mega miles)
VW Toureg
Any experiences with the above? Any recommendations or any glaring ones I’ve missed?
