Ignoring the fact that this forum is pistonheads haha...

Just listed my BGTS on Autotrader.. £85 fking quid for their top advert. On here it's £15... but i'm not sure it'll reach as many people.

Which one do you use and why

Depends on the car really, something normal Autotrader, something more interesting here as well as Autotrader.

Based upon my experinece of selling two Porsches (996 C2 £16K and 997.2 C2 PDK £35K) ...

Pistonheads will delivery you results on cheaper enthusiast cars. For my 996 I could have sold it many times over in the first weekend.

For more expensive cars, few private buyers will take the risk of a private sale. For my 997 I had lots of trade bids in response to my adverts, but no private buyers. If you want trade bids, consider Tootle ... I got good response for my 997.

Good shout, never even heard of that. I've already rung around the local dealers and theyre getting back to me. The problem is like you say.. nobody private will probably buy it as it's too expensive. Dealers mostly give st offers so i might aswell part ex it. I got 2 months to sell it though so no rush.

With Tootle on my 997.2 PDK, I set the price slightly higher than the average of the WeBuyAnyCar offer and what an OPC was selling the same (or similar) car for. Also Tootle is free for the seller. The trick with Tootle is to take lots of photos inside and out (see their guide) and have the car clean and tidy (but don't fork out money on a professional detail). Be honest and spend time listing all the options, service history, etc. The more info the keener the trader is. I end up selling to trade for way more than WBAC, and more than OPC P/Ex offer.

Seems one of the rules is no links in here. I didn't post my auto trader ad, someone else did. :/

Paid £85, sold in 6 hours.

Only a shed but if you want a sale, AT is where to go.

Yes the stats are pretty strong in favour of AT....makes a big difference to how quickly a car is sold even for the big dealer groups. I think it’s something daft like the average car at a dealer takes 30 days to sell....AT brings that down by 10 days. Bought some shares in AT on the back of it about 18 months ago....was a prudent purschase.

The stats don't lie.. i checked out the Alexa ratings.. Autotrader is ranked 80th in the UK whereas Pistonheads is 376th. This is a huge difference.

Sold 4 Porsche’s on here ranging from 50k to 90k and a Golf r at 18k. All sold within a month at a rate higher than any px price, imo if you price it correctly for a private sale you won’t have any problems.

I must admit I regularly browse AT using the app but never any longer the PH Classifieds. However, I have always advertised my cars on owner forums and on PH as I get a free advert. The recent cars sold have been relatively niche or specialist though P38 Range Rover and Merc AMG C55 in the most recent years. None were particularly expensive but they're the sort of car you have to know about and want.

I haven't tried to for ages but the last time I tried to set up a seach alert on PH it didn't work and now when I do look at car adds the photos don't come up after the second or thrid photo. There's a thread running somewhere on the latter. PH needs a serious upgrade....the serach when you're using an Iad or Phone isn't as good as the website either. No direct links to each manufacturer. I definitely wouldn't pay for a PH add!

I thought tootle was a dealer buying site? If thats the case then thats the reason they are low?

It is. It's so a seller can get a mix of trade bids. So expect trade prices but at least you will find out what the very best trade bid is and not just the few dealers you contacted.

I've sold loads of cars on pistonheads from golf r to gtrs 25k-60k with no problems at all .sold to a mix of private and trade .
CG motors and sytner are best to sell to as they offer excellent prices for the right cars.
Also it is really important to put lots of pictures and full description of the vehicle.it doesn't put me off buying privately as all my best cars have been bought this way mainly off genuine enthusiast's who look after there cars properly.oh and you get to meet the owner of the car which is great

Ebay Classified ads. Half the price of Autotrader and reaches a bigger audience than Pistonheads which is clunky and awkward to use on a phone.
