Hi everyone,

just joined and hope you can help.

i got a Audi A8 2014 4.2TDI.

got fault code 9814-sensor 1 for exaust bank 1 G235.

I went to TPS with this information and bought the sensor.i fitted it this weekend. i am not a mechanic by any means but as this one was on top of the engine i did it myself. cut a long story short, it was the wrong sensor.
I then rang Audi this morning and they said i need to bring the car in so they can find out which sensor it is manually by unscrewing them.
so i said, whats the point of having vagcom computer that tells you what sensor it is if you got to do it manually.
surely sensor 1 for exhaust bank 1 should tell you which sensor it is and where it is located.
i have done some research today and realize they there are quite a few exhaust temperature sensors on my car but each one has a different part number. i now know my car has 2 banks of exhaust sensor because its a V8 so that in itself eliminates half of them.
the bloke in parts said,if it is the one,he thinks it is,it will cost £2000 plus vat and £150 for sensor.

so can anybody help me to try and identify which sensor is sensor 1 for exhaust bank 1 please.

thanks.

Andy

If you have the means to see and clear fault codes, you can simply disconnect a sensor and see what fault code comes up. You wouldn't want to leave it like that for long but running a warm engine for a few seconds to see the fault code will do no harm.

hiya.

thanks for your reply.i think i have located which sensor it is.
Exhaust gas temperature sender
VAG 057 906 088 P.

it is the sensor just before the turbo to change that sensor
in fact,if you look at the pic,it looks like it screws into the turbo.
is that a big job, getting access to the turbo.
it is part number 4 on the diagram
