I have just come back from a long weekend in Munich and was reminded how much I love German food but have never cooked it at home.

This is a call for recipes for all kinds of German food. Let’s see your recipes did currywurst, spätzle, schweinebraten, schweinshaxe, potato and bread dumplings etc etc....

Lidl are doing an Alpine/German special week right now.

Saw Spetzle there too, Rosti, Schweine Haxe...

Not a big fan of the pre made stuff, sausages aside. Would rather do it myself. That is a good thing about having Aldi here though

A personal favourite is Schnitzel, whether it be a cutlet or the classic weiner. Knorr even do a very authentic schnitzel coating to add to your fleisch of choice:

Must be eaten with bratkartoffel of course, also available in a packet, and very tasty. I know German people who, although they love to cook from scratch, buy this stuff as it's just as good:

Also: "Pfanni" wink

I moved to Germany in 2012, like all countries there are big regional variations. I live in the south west so kase spetzle and maultaschen are pretty common here. You might find it hard to track down maultaschen outside of Germany but I really rate it. You can put it in soups, fry it with eggs or make a baked dish with onion sauce with it. I have made it once but it is quite involved.

Whilst schnitzel is very easy to find in Germany it isn’t originally from here, certainly not the common breaded version.

Don’t forget the goulash soup. Used to love that as a starter to schnitzel.
