Off to Spain for a week on Saturday.

any advice/ deals on breakdown cover. Went with the RAC last time but seemed to be bloody expensive and without some pointers it's hard to haggle which you need to do.

I used Eurobreakdown.com, no idea if they are any good as didn't use the service.

Not sure if you can get ADAC anymore without a german address?

We still have our (joint) cover; I'm hoping that we don't lose it as a result of Brexit. It really brings home to me just how much we get ripped off by the AA who are essentially just a financial institution.

If you're only after short term cover then most of the insurance comaprison sites include it. Google is your friend.

Used rescuemycar.com in Sept 2018 and it was £79 for 17 days in France/Spain

Used eta.co.uk in Sept 2017 £67 for 8 days in France/Spain.

Never used the services so can't rate the cover I'm afraid. This was for a 2003 GSXR1000, the age of the bike makes a massive difference to the price of cover.

Just been on the comparison sites and bloody hell it's complicated. 50 different types of cover from a load of providers that mostly talk about cars etc. Every single one of em has some sort of exclusion or another and like most insurance "in the event of a claim this policy is null and void"

I've copied this from my reply to a similar thread back in 2018

My experience of the AA and my annual policy

I broke down one afternoon in Belgium on a Sunday afternoon.
Alternator belt went on my motorbike, nothing open until Tuesday to get a replacement part.

Called the AA – recovered by a local garage within 90 minutes from the phone call.
Given the option to have a nights stay in Belgium and try and get the bike fixed on a Monday or get home and sort at a later date. Took the home option as nothing was going to be open and I had work on the Monday.

AA organised a Taxi from the car garage I was recovered too back to Calais ferry port, they asked the taxi driver to call the AA once he had picked me up so they could book a ferry ticket for the nearest ferry time I would be arriving at the docks, so I could head to the ticket office and just collect my ticket.
Once that was organised they had a hire car waiting for me at Dover so I could drive myself home, it was agreed the hire car would be picked up on Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday morning the AA organised transport of my bike from the car garage to BMW Motorrad just outside Bruges. They then called me to say my bike was in their hands and BMW would be in touch directly with me so that I could authorise repair.

Next weekend I conned a foolish friend to ride us both back over to Bruges to get my bike, I treated him to some lovely pancakes for the hassle and day long euro jaunt.

The AA said they would happily pay for my return Eurotunnel ticket too – I didn’t bother as they had done more than my monies worth by then.

That’s the flip side to all these rubbish national companies, all for my £14 a month.

But it's no different than the cover you'd get from ADAC for example. You just got the cover you paid (a lot) for.
