Hi,

I recently updated my 2015 F30 330D suspension with a Birds upgrade. At the time I kept the old suspension parts as I wasn’t sure how I would get on with the Birds and always thought I could put the old one back if required.

I’ve now decided that I’m keeping the Birds and so need to get rid of the old suspension.

If anybody wants it for FREE, collected from Bristol email me It has done approximately 30k miles and is almost complete apart from one of the “strut covers” not sure what they are called.

A charitable donation to any charity would be a nice touch.

Cheers

Mr Tidy

Very generous offer OP. thumbup

If you go to "General Gassing" there is a thread running on there for items free to PHers, so it might be worth posting on there.

What did you think of the Birds upgrade? And assuming you told your insurance company did they increase the premium?

I told my insurance company (Saga Insurance) and they did not want to insure me. I got my insurance from Adrian Flux and they were quite good. I was a bit short of time so didn't really check the price that much but it wasn't outrageous. Next year, I will do a more detailed search for a better price.

With regards to the suspension, my car is a 330d luxury not msport. Firstly I changed the tyres to Goodyear asymmetric f3 on the standard 18 inch rims. This made a huge difference, completely softened the response and the ride was super smooth, however it was then I noticed that the handling was too soft and it tended to wallow in corners. Adding the birds suspension stiffened up the suspension to a little bit more than the standard + run flats but not by much however it changes the handling characteristics completely. The car is much more precise in its handling and the wallow in corners is not present anymore.

I didn't go for the LSD because I don't feel the wheels searching for grip that much, the automatic probably limits that and Bristol has 20mph limits everywhere . Overall quite pleased.

I have a 330d Luxury as well. I will always remember my trip to Rossiters the AC Schnitzer distributers.

My F30 30d Luxury suspension was just ridiculous a floating blancmange and it was not X drive either just the SE Standard suspension.

Going up to Kings Lynn from London myself and my partner went through a place strangely named Prickwillow it was 5 miles of an undulating road. I am not exaggerating we were like in a lorry on Ice Road Truckers literally bouncing up and down it was crazy we were killing ourselves laughing but awful at the same time ,whoever signed this off needs sacking

Got the springs and shocks done ,coming back I said to Sue we have to find that road again. We found it I stopped and then with trepidation planted my foot ,I could have cried ,cried with happiness it was totally planted ,fantastic. Probably the best purchase for feel good factor I have made

Highly ,highly recco Lorcan and Ian..
