Not sure which Fabia to go for, the 1.2 petrol or 1.4 oil burner.
Our current Fabia 1.9tdi has been brilliant and still offers hack service but we want to buy another that does not look a wreak hehe
Driving duties are usual shopping around town with occasional long runs All in around 8000 miles year. Car to buy will be a 2015 mk 3 version.
Car will be long term keeper. I am a little concerned that the 1.2 tsi is perhaps over stressed leading to short life??
Comments and advise appreciated.

1.2TSI has been in Fabia's since 2011, no real long term reliability issues as far as I'm aware. I'd go for the 1.2TSI, mainly because the 1.4TDI is 3 cylinder and your 1.6 is 4 cylinder and much quieter.

As above, I'd recommend the 1.2 Tsi

It's worth finding the 108bhp version, it makes the car quite nippy.

Especially for a car that's only £20 road tax.

We've got two of these in the family, no problems so far.

1.2 TSI definitely, smooth, quiet and reasonably punchy

1.0 TSI is better still if you can stretch to it. I had one of those recently in 115PS form and it went pretty well whilst consistently returning circa 50mpg

Beware there are two versions of 1.2tsi. The ea111 in the mk2 and ea211 in the mk3. The earlier engine has some known faults whereas the later engine seems to be generally reliable.

I have the later engine in a mk3. Personally I don’t see the need for a diesel as the petrol will always do at least 40mpg however you drive on the road. The best I’ve had out of mine was 75mpg but will regularly get between 50 and 60mpg.

Power wise there’s plenty of torque from 1500 revs but it does get a bit breathless above 5000. Mine is modified but does everything from carting bikes around (it fits 2 mountain bikes in the back) to track days. It has been 100% reliable.

My brother is looking at a 2014 Fabia 1.2 TSi. Do you know when the change over is between chains and belts? It's the 85PS version. Is there an easy way of identifying which engine is which?

The engines are very visibly different, earlier one is 8v, later is 16v

You can only get the newer engine in the mark 3. Either 90 or 110hp.

OK, thanks. I believe as it's a July 2014 car it's a Mark 2, so that will be the chain driven 8 valve.

Is the chain driven model OK, or best avoided? Any pointers when looking at it? Thanks.
