Is lack of intellect a fair game for ridicule?
Discussion
On the other hand it gets you a pass in a lot of situations. In fact the cast of TOWIE have all made careers out of it.
I don't think this should be protected like race or disability. Would you really want people pretending to be thick to evade scrutiny? Enough morons about already and ignorance is a reversible condition, but then so is obesity so I'd probably endorse shame as an incentive to correct both rather than encouraging it, which seems to be the policy these day, people so fat they're given a car and a gastric band.

Depends entirely on the context and the means with which you are determining intellect.
Someone with learning difficulties may not show any other outward signs other than their levels of intellect on which it would be incorrect to ridicule.
There's plenty of PhDs and the like who come across a bit thick but they are plainly not.

We shouldn't bash people for the colour of their skin, nor for where they were born - and I like and agree with that.
And allegedly not for their religious leanings either, this I do have a problem with.
But what about general intellect? Is that off the cards too now?
I guess it depends if the cards are pristine, 2 inch square and come in a crisp white envelope? And allegedly not for their religious leanings either, this I do have a problem with.

Are we talking about Diane Abbott here?
My thoughts exactly. If she had a lower IQ you would need to water her.But she does keep coming across as not up to being in that realm, not many are but she seems miles off with some of the stuff she comes out with and does.

Is she actually as "thick" as her reputation though, surely to get to that level she must have displayed some intelligence, at some point ?

Her reputation is based on interviews that she should have prepared for. I would suggest she is indeed even thicker than we currently believe. But she does keep coming across as not up to being in that realm, not many are but she seems miles off with some of the stuff she comes out with and does.
Annoying biased video against her here... but the content is accurate.
