F56 Mini Cooper S Vs Audi TT RS
Discussion
The Title is not how it sounds, Im sure the TT would Win
I currently Have the mini, and for sure its a belter of a car especially round bends and twisties,
im about to pay it off as on PCP, I almost bought an original audi TT 4 years back, but finding a reliable one proved fruitless and got a Focus ST in the end lol
anyway to the present, the TT itch has caught back up with me, and really like the TT RS i see a 2010/11 can be had for around 14/15K and have read a few right ups about them being solid cars and quite reliable if maintained well,
should i stick with the mini/ maybe get it tuned/upgraded to the JCW spec, or will i have more fun with the TT RS ?

I have a F56 Mini Cooper S currently and I've had an Audi TTS. I think for outright performance you will absolutely love the TT RS without question, but I found the TTS I had a little uninspiring to drive. It was a lovely car to live with but not a very engaging car to actually drive, it was fast though.
I've not driven the TT RS and I would guess it is a big step up in performance to the TTS but I think it will have a similar uninspiring quattro system. In saying that I think because you've already had a Cooper S I'd be tempted to scratch the itch and go with the TT RS.

Fun wise I've found my Cooper S to be one of the most fun things I've had and I find it great fun for sure. It is brilliant in the twisties and it always raises a smile. The TT RS will be fun in a different way and the performance will make you laugh for certain I reckon. I said it on here a while back, you have to experience a car with more power than is useful on the road to appreciate how good something like a Mini Cooper S is. It's the old thing of it being more fun to use 100% of the performance of a slower car than 50% of a powerful car.
I find that with a lot of these 4wd VAG performance cars once you've done a few full bore launches the novelty has sort of wore off. They feel quite normal at legal speeds.

Thanks for the advise from an owners prospective really appreciate it, I've not driven the TT RS and I would guess it is a big step up in performance to the TTS but I think it will have a similar uninspiring quattro system. Def see what your saying, sometimes even the Cooper S catches me by surprise, re novelty thing, I kinda had that with the ST, a scary car in a straight line, but no fun around country roads , I find that with a lot of these 4wd VAG performance cars once you've done a few full bore launches the novelty has sort of wore off. Hmmm things to think about. Obviously a test drive would be a good start, will have to check out some local forecourts

I'd be going for the TT RS or a Cooper GP.
Am I getting a lot more from a GP thou , it’s gonna get me a 1.6 211bhp GP for the money I’ve got at best, don’t get me wrong your getting a car with much improved running gear compared to the Cooper S but just gonna leave me wandering about the TT RS I think Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
