Vantage - Hidden Emergency Key
Discussion

Hey Guys - My first post - Where do you think would be the best place to hide my emergency key somewhere on the outside of my Vantage? I'm thinking of putting it in a magnetic box for some place under the car.
Best place to hide - hm, probably any place you dont discuss in a public forum? Also, the only place magnetic on an mostly aluminium car would be the steel rear subframe.

Mate, not being funny, but are you really asking a public forum where’s best to hide your spare key ?
I for one would not tell anyone where it is, especially in the world of geo-tagging of photos etc.
Maybe we should have a standard place for our spare keys, say under the drivers side rear subframe? I for one would not tell anyone where it is, especially in the world of geo-tagging of photos etc.
.....you would have thought Q could come up with a cool solution for this already

Why wouldn't you just keep it in the house with all the other keys etc...? Its just a spare for when the ECUs fail, so its extremely unlikely for that to happen whilst you are out and about. In fact I think I've only ever heard of anybody using it maybe once?
If you happen to lose your key, especially when not close to home, it's very useful to be able to get in your car. To start the car, keep a plastic fob hidden inside the car.shuzzy said:
Lets just hope she remains your girlfriend forever, wouldnt want her wandering off with that key.
On a side note, my car never came with one, was over £100 for replacement.
Right, but it would be the first item I will reclaim back if not!On a side note, my car never came with one, was over £100 for replacement.
By the way, did the key comes in some sort of nice box? I have mine but in random plastic, and it looks like something is missing to the right of it.

Big Ry: Well the way I look at it is - Nobody who comes to this site knows who I am, what country I'm in or where my car is. And I'm only talking about hiding a key somewhere on the outside of my car that only opens the doors, just in case I have an electrical problem out on the road.I for one would not tell anyone where it is, especially in the world of geo-tagging of photos etc.

Please be careful then, GWPP, never to post a digital photo of your car at home.
You probably know about the GPS coordinates, which can be viewed with digital photographs.
Jon, can you please enlighten me as I am not into IT/computers:
Are you saying it is possible to track down the location of the car when I post a "digital" picture (= a picture taken e.g. with a digital camera and then uploaded?) of it? Does this require special skills?
Now I understand why we never get to see a pic of your car
Sorry, OP, for going off topic.

Pictures taken with a mobile phone and many new digital cameras store the GPS location in the image header. Some picture hosting services, including thumbsnap, retain this information so it is possible to get the location of when and where the photo was taken (as in the picture of the key above). Sites such a Flickr remove the GPS data from the header.
