Best ever techno easy listening CD?

I need a little gift for someone who loves mellow techno music. I know nothing about this genre. Can anyone recommend a great CD?

Perhaps one of the Ministry of Sound Ibiza Chillout compilation CDs.

As an alternative I listen to a guy who records as Alucidnation and any of his albums would probably fit the bill and be a bit different.

Being nearer 60 than 50 now I'm not up on the recent genres but me and my mates are big hi-fi fans and after buying a Ministry Of Sound late night chill compilation cd many years ago there was a track on it by a French chap who goes by the name of St German, the album it came from was called Boulevard, we now use this as a reference disc checking out new hi-fi along with the usual suspects Steely Dan,Herbie Hancock,Spyro Gyra etc.

Can I recommend to you all a DAB radio station called Chill. I've picked up some brilliant stuff from there over recent years.

No adverts or djs chatting rubbish. Just chill......as they say on their only jingle.

How about some Nightmares on Wax - Smokers Delight, one of those chilled electronic albums that sounds as fresh today as it did the first time I heard it in some 20 years ago.

Tough one as it depends on your taste in techno.

I'm quite into Detroit but isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Not my usual thing but I thought Sasha's Scene Delete from the Late Night Tales series to be pretty chilled and a good listen.

Personally Selected Ambient Works (Aphex Twin) or Amber (Autechre) if considering older stuff.

Nowadays I quite like Kiasmos, which is a bit of a crossover between classical and techno but some of his stuff like the Swept EP is reminiscent of Detroit Techno, which is nice.

On a slightly more commercial side Electronic Architecture 2 by Solarstone makes for nice easy listening.

I was on holiday in January in Fuertuventura having my evening meal in this Argentinian run restaurant and they had Tourist playing,brilliant.

Not sure if it counts as Techno but Northern Exposure by Sasha and John Digweed is excellent. Getting hold of it may be a challenge though.

Man I've not listened to Carl Craig for ages. You're right. At Les is great. My personal fav is From Beyond on the Psyche 12". Too much other stuff to list (maybe we need a Detroit Techno thread!).

Theorem's Ion is also a good one. Very chilled.

Extremely difficult without knowing what your tastes are, what you may think is (mellow) techno may not be, to me.

Sven Vath - An Accident in Paradise
Sven Vath - The Harlequin, Robot and Ballet Dancer (this got my Uni flatmates who didn't like Techno, into Techno).

In terms of compilations, hunt out the old "Trance Europe Express" series on Volume records, "Abstract Funk Theory" series and "Artificial Intelligence on Warp records.

If you want to take a real flyer then "Manuel Göttsching - E2-E4".
