Been offered an Erde type box trailer for fee by a mate and want to clean it up a bit.
It’s got a bit of surface rust on the towing arm and one of the panels, where the coating has been scratched.
Can this be cleaned up and repainted with anything to make it blend in?

Also the wheels are rusty and the tyres need replacing. Is it easier just to buy two new complete wheels off the internet as they go for like £45 the pair, which seems dead cheap.

Preparation is the key.
If its just surface rust, rub down with wet and dry paper, start off with rough paper then move to a less course paper.

Prime ans a top coat.

As for the wheels look for what the tyres cost on their own and factor in fitting, only then will you know if the price for wheels and tyres is cheap

Bit expensive for the job really. Just want to stop the rust on this trailer bed and edges. Was thinking rust eater, followed by either Hammerite or something a bit better,

Same for the axle which needs going over with the angle grinder/wire brush then painting with something hard wearing.
Any thoughts.

POR is excellent for this kind of thing, they even do a bed liner which would be spot on.

Black for the chassis parts.

POR Black looks perfect for the underneath. Just need alu for the body.

Often it is cheaper to buy complete wheel/tyre combinations than try to source just tyres. There is some variation on wheel fitment so make sure that you are buying the right ones for your trailer.

My Erde is about 17 years old and has a fair bit of rust. The bed wasn't rusty but I Waxoyled it and bolted some OSB plywood to it. Also to the front panel. This protects the floor very well. The underside is a bit furry in the same places as yours and so I will clean it off and just use a smooth brushed Hammerite or black underseal type Waxoyl.

I have been saying that I will do all this, for a few years now but I think that I will definitely have to do it this year.

Wirewheel to get rid of scaly rust then a phosphoric acid based rust stabiliser followed by a zinc rich primer like Zinc 182.

Thanks ended up doh the whole bed with the wire wheel, then rust killer and zinc primer.
Now I just have to top coat with something cheap and hardwaring.
