Guys, I’m about to buy my first 911 and have a few questions. I’m planning to buy a 997 Gen 2 from an established Porsche reseller ,Cridfords, RSJ and the like , and I’ll be a cash buyer.

Whats the etiquette here, I’m used to buying lesser vehicles for a max of £15k. I’ve waited a long time for this moment.

Do I walk around the car, kick a few tyres and make an offer like I would do at a VW dealer or are things done a bit differently in this world.

Can you negotiate the price ? Are there any benefits for a cash buyer ?

The other thing is how do I go about getting a pre-inspection , I can’t imagine for one moment these Porsche resellers would be happy to have their car driven off to some other location for a check which might result in a negative result.

Any advice would be appreciated

Regards
Clive

Hi Clive

I had porscheinspection.com do an inspection on a 997 for me two weeks ago, very pleased with the thoroughness and price, 22 page report even noting the temperature the air conditioning got down to! It would be worth a call to them to see if they cover the area your prospective purchase is, mine was 30 mins outside but they still went for me.

I guess most of these dealers see all types & all different approaches so I guess they will just roll with it, if you want to make an offer I am sure they will deal with you politely.

Good luck
Ed

I’d say negotiation is definitely worth it, particularly at present where things aren’t flying off the shelf.

Consider also taking finance for a better purchase price (the dealer maybe more accommodating as will expect to make money on the finance), then simply pay it off a week later as is your right.

Finally, Peter Morgan also great for inspections. Had one on a 997 once with him, he did a cracking job, very thorough report also and reasonably priced. He would come to the dealer I suspect who should be open to it unless they have something to hide.

Don’t expect it to be perfect though, it’s a 7+ year old car, there will be a few tired parts.
