The one on Sidney Street in Cambridge outside Sainsburys really, really f*cks me off.

That's all. Thanks for listening.

I love visiting the high street still but the one thing that p*sses me off is chuggers trying to sell you something or sign up to a charity.

They're a mixed bag. It's unfortunate you have an aggressive example. Until recently we had two in Newbury; a self effacing eastern European woman who is still here and an ebullient English bloke called Kev who was so entertaining he appeared on television at least once and went on to sell the Big Issue in Winchester. They must all have a story. Whether Kev's story involved a spell as a Butlins Red Coat or a car salesman I omitted to ask.

Don't get me wrong, there are quite a few sellers in Cambridge but the one outside Sainsburys is somewhat hostile and seems to interpret 'no, thank you' as 'ive just been banging your mum'.

They (generally Roma women) commute from London to sell outside the better supermarkets in my leafy part of Kent.

Shame - this was set up for british homeless and has now turned into a way of cheating benefits for economic migrants

Don't buy from a dirty foreigner? Job jobbed. It's an entirely voluntary transaction.

I don't get the aggressive hawkers at all. No way is anyone getting a penny out of me if they attempt to impede my day.

Maybe its to shame you. This is the new tactic for homeless people but the other way round, please & thank you, have a nice day, after you refused to give money. The gulible people might feel guilty/embarrased and go back with money.

In Sweden most supermarkets have homeless people by the entrance sat down with a coffee cup to take change. It's staggering how many people give them money.

They all earn more money than most of us fools who work.

I agree. The most astonishing one I’ve experienced was waiting for the bus to go to one of the Ashes tests in Sydney with a buddy.

This trampy woman was coming down the line and some were giving her money, some just ignoring her. For some reason she stopped at us and wouldn’t move on. So I politely said no (and I was polite!). She absolutely flipped her lid. Shouting, swearing, pointing, jumping up and down etc.

She didn’t take to kindly to me laughing and asking her if she really thought that was going to make me more likely to give her money. Then she was hauled off by the cops!

Kev did try and make it worth while buying an issue, he was entertaining.

Did you see him around Christmas time dressed as a Christmas tree? Lights and all.

Kev is still exchanging witty banter with the shoppers of Winchester. He was selected to turn on the Christmas lights the year before last.

Just recently there was an issue of the magazine which featured him. He was autographing copies as he sold them.

Top bloke.

Yup I did, quite a few times. I use to live near the Lockstock, so was in town quite a lot.
I'm a bit further out of town now.
