Fuel warning - Vauxhall Astra J
Discussion
Hi guys,
I wonder if you can help.
On Saturday my fuel light was on and I was receiving a warning on my on board computer telling me that I need to fill my car up.
So I took it to a petrol station and filled it up completely (£65 worth)
However when re-starting my car the warning message still came up on my onboard computer and the fuel light remained on.
Since filling up I have driven around 30 miles over around 4 different journeys.
Yesterday I took the battery out and left it off for a few hours in the hope that when I reconnected the battery and started the car, the system may have reset itself. Unfortunately this was not the case and the issue persists.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this issue? I am thinking about taking the battery out for five minutes and putting it back in, in the hopes it may reset everything.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys

Don't bother taking the battery out it will do nothing, and nothing for it "to reset" as you put it.
Car details? - Age, fuel type, mileage etc.
Fuel tank history? - Do you normally just put a bit in? Do you always fill to the brim? etc
It is a 2010 Vauxhall Astra diesel, just shy of 95k miles.Car details? - Age, fuel type, mileage etc.

I usually fill it up completely to the brim.
However last Monday when I was low on fuel I put £20 in to get me by until this weekend (Saturday) where I filled it up completely.

The reason I ask is I had a Citroen C1 as a knock-about for a while that would occasionally fail to register full for a few miles and separately have a Mini Cooper S that (after changing fuel sender) took a few fills to actually register full when filled.
Okay thank you, I think I will need to take a look into the fuel sender. Hopefully it isn’t an expensive job! Saleen836 said:
My 2012 Astravan has done the same when I have run it low on fuel (OBC saying 'Please refuel') Filled up with fuel and OBC still saying 20 miles to empty or something, I just cycled the engine on/off a couple of times and it sorted itself out
Thank you Saleen I will give it a tryGassing Station | Home Mechanics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
