I recently bought a firebade 929 and the ignition key was cracked. The previous owner said he only used that one for the ignition and the spare for the seat lock.
I stupidly left the key as it was but after a trip last week I found it in two pieces after getting home (luckily it didn’t snap off in the ignition).
I tried the spare but it only cranks the engine and will not fire so it must not be programmed
I have emailed a website but they say they cannot supply through the post.
What must I do to get a programmed key cut? Is it expensive?

can you not tape the broken key under the ignition barrel and then just use the good key (and get a spare cut (a non coded one also)). obviously this means that the immobiliser is essentially useless but is a cheap option.

yes i think so, go give it a try (hold the snapped key by the ignition) and then try starting with the "spare"

A decent locksmith can clone the existing key to a chipped blank and then cut that to match the spare key.

Could do either of above or program the intact key to the bike.
It's a bit of a faff but there are guides on youtube and forums.

I got 2 spare keys (with immobiliser chips) cut at timpsons for my 05 600rr. If you still have a good key take that and the bike down to them.

I had to wait a few days while they ordered the blanks and go back.

Cost me £90

Thanks for the tip, it worked tonight so at least I can get it MOT’d Saturday.
I’m getting a key done Friday for £50
