I would push your local dealer to have a demo for 48/72hrs not just a drive round the block so to speak to see if it fits your requirements and typical journey types.
My wife drove one last weekend for about 30mins and came away sat on the fence. There were elements of it she liked but other areas she most definitely didn't like.
For the same sort of money a nearly new Mercedes GLC is top of her list thus far.

I had a 30 min test drive in an Excel trim AWD model last week. The car I'm replacing (and therefore direct comparison for my purposes) is a 2 year old Peugeot 5008 GT Line diesel auto.
The RAV4 looks great from the outside - especially in Dynamic trim - loads of presence and some nice details to make it stand out. Inside, after coming out of the 5008, it felt like stepping into a pickup truck. What was there was well built and functional, just really bland and occasional weird placement of things (heated steering wheel button hidden down by your right knee, for example). Then the strangely MASSIVE rubber temperature dials. I've been spoiled by the Pug's interior so I'm not being fussy when looking at alternatives, but I reckon the RAV would have felt a bit basic even 3 years ago.
It was a solid enough car to drive. Punchier than the 1.6 diesel in the Pug (obviously) and the gearbox was really smooth. Setting off in silence was also a bit of an occasion! My criticism of the Pug is that the steering's too light - the RAV's was nice and weighty. My main problem with it when driving was the cabin noise - it just didn't seem very well insulated. Even as a petrol/electric vs a diesel it felt much noisier when driving. The Excel trim had pretty much every bit of kit you could ever ask for though - for the price it is it really is streets ahead of anything else in that regard.
All in I'd be happy with the RAV4 as a family bus, but it would have to be one hell of a deal. As it is I'm considering the DS7 Crossback and Citroen C5 Aircross (I'd also be happy with another 5008/3008) - the French seem to be really nailing interiors at the moment. I'd also consider used a used Q5/GLC/XC90 for the money before the RAV4.
