Lease vs Hire vs Buy for 6 months
Discussion
Wonder if anyone could offer advice please. I am trying to help my colleague who works with me. She is working on a contract till the end of December and has a short term hire car, but was considering buying a car as an alternative to hire, but can you also lease for 6 months?
It seems a lot of hassle to buy and sell for 6 months sake, can you even lease for 6 months only?
Car needs to be small to mid size automatic, she has Italian passport but passed a driving test in the UK, location is Liverpool if that makes a difference.
Thanks for any suggestions, I'm not sure what is best.

It's doubtful a leasing company will do under 12mths, but if you can find one (via a broker) then that will likely prove to be the cheapest and most risk free option unless you can find a criminal deal on a car to buy, and she has funds to do so, and will put very little mileage on the car.
If she does have funds to buy something outright, contacting leasing companies that are offloading low-mileage stock could be a good source of a cheap car that may not lose much if anything over 6mths.....but as with anything, owning the asset and having capital tied up in a volatile asset is risky (image anyone that bought a diesel a week before VW's dieselgate then sold it 6mths later. Bigger bath than the Samoan Rugby team have ever seen.

A couple of options:

My local independent hire car company have done a small auto for £400/month for me in the past, worth trying some local to her.

That's double what you could get on a 'normal' lease though, and for a brand new car....and £2400 for 6mths motoring.https://www.flexxilease.co.uk/Toyota-Contract-Hire...

Cheap for a (potentially ropey) hire car, poor for what is in effect 'ownership' for 6mths.

Indeed, very few bargain options.
On second thoughts, the cost of insurance in/near Liverpool for a recent arrival with presumably zero NCD could make the hire car option more appealing?
Thanks, just to add a little more info, she has lived hear previously when working, and had a UK car in the past for about 2 years with 2 years NCB that ended 18 months ago, went to work in Spain and Finland and then back here.On second thoughts, the cost of insurance in/near Liverpool for a recent arrival with presumably zero NCD could make the hire car option more appealing?
It's actually quite rural in L40 and medium risk as worst for car insurance, about half the price of Manchester.
She has the capital to buy something, I just wondered whether there are better options for 6 months.
Thanks for the good suggestions so far.

I grew up in L40! I also happened upon this site: https://flexed.co.uk recently - 1, 6 & 12 month leases - might be worth a look? It's actually quite rural in L40 and medium risk as worst for car insurance, about half the price of Manchester.
