hi gents, my son drives a 88 350i wedge nowadays. that is the good part.
the bad part is the car stopped running suddenly and did not started after that.
i think it is a relay. but which one.
we checked the Wedge maintenance book but the relay scheme in the car is not coming close to the ones in the book.
for example , we checked the position of the trunk solenoid and according the scheme it is 2 positions more to the left.
so , does someone can help us out ? We know you have to read the scheme upside down.
kind regards William and my son Diesel Waardenburg TVR club "Blackpool on the Rijn"

You named your son Diesel???

That's the problem then, you are putting Diesel in a petrol car.

Boom boom!

Hi William & Diesel smile

You could try pulling each relay out and then pushing it back in..also tap them each on the back with a rubber handled screwdriver..

We could really do with a diagnostic flowchart for checking this stuff, maybe one day...

Over the years I have seen many of the failures that could case "no starting".

First I would start with "what did you last change on the car"? And change it back.

Apart from the relays it could be a number of things:

- spark?
- ignition amp, coil, dizzy, king lead...

- fuel?
- pump, relays,

- air?
- throttle linkage, throttle plate setting, gunge in throttle body.

- others
- faulty rev limiter, engine temp sensor, throttle pot, check ECU multiplug is seated, battery voltage > 10V, loose connectors.

Let's have some more tests and results and report back.

Hallo Adam, thank you for your reply. we did a check on the car and found out that coil is not receiving 12v. We connected a direct 12 v from battery to coil and engine did run. We drove to a TVR meeting last sunday and no problem except that rev counter stopped working.
So, problem is not solved yet and we have to stop the car by disconnecting the 12v from coil.

Ha ha another item to add to the checklist!

Yes you'll need to work your way back through the wiring diagram could be back fuse, or ignition lamp, or ignition switch or wires in between, good luck...
