7 series/S class/A8 or Lexus - £5-£10k....crazy?

Having been shown a delivery mileage 7 series in my local Beamer dealership...where they are trying to sell me a 340i (but that’s another post)

I started thinking about a big cruiser. Looking around you can get what looks like a quite clean, under 100k 730d for under £ 10k....they are its equivalents also with the S class, A8,etc

But is a car of this calibre just going to be a world of hurt? They are hugely complex machines and any small fault could be ruinous?

a lexus will run for ever and cost as little as big luxo barge will ever do!

merc/bmw/jag be ready for bigger bills.

in 5-10k bracket I'd be looking at ls460 or gs450 lexus.

I bought a 2007 Lexus LS460 with 150k on the clock for £6000 2 years ago. Now on 190k. Just tyres, routine servicing and 1 rocker cover gasket as maintenance costs. Averages 26mpg and 100% reliable.

Also had 3 petrol Audi A8's costing between £5000 and £14000. No big problems with any of them.

agreed Lexus ...or is it Lexi? Seem the best bet in regards to running costs and the best chances of failure

There's a few LS600h's within budget as well - a couple that have been to the moon. I'd get one with the rear seat relaxation pack and spend my evenings in there.

I assume the hybrid system is pretty bulletproof now, my fear is it needing a new battery pack
