Just looking at the towing capacity of my car (Mit Colt CZT, braked and unbraked) before I get bogged down with trailer brochures and more statistics. Braked towing capacity is 750kg. Caterham (possibly CSR...heavier!) and trailer look like they will be well above that. I know manufacturers go on the cautious side. Do you guys think this will be a problem?

If you get stopped and weighed then it's 3 points (as I know to my cost!) Thing is that the trailer will probably be 400Kgs, plus a CSR at circa 600Kgs that's 25% over, I'd reckon that's pushing hte boundaries a bit too far

Mark, how do VOSA work out what is legal/illegal? Do they take it off manufacturers weights or make their own rules up. Didn't you get done on axle weight and how did they work that out?

So the worrying bit is getting stopped. What about the effect on the towcar or do the manufacturers assume 4 - 5 people in the car before they calculate their (conservative?) figure. If this is the case then things are a bit better as only 1 -2 bods in the car so hopefully OK? I see Fiestas, 206`s, etc etc towing.

I'm sure i read a post on here a while back from someone who got stopped with an empty trailer because the trailer COULD carry a car heavier than the weight limit of the towing car.
