I'm an avid boxer (45 so just sparring and training) and also have become a bit obsessed with cutting down my body.

I saw a link on FB to a local gym offering a program for over 40's and thought I'd go along and perhaps get some advice on correct training and adding lean muscle mass now I've whittled down to a look I like.

The did one of those scans and now I've been told I need to start stuffing my face to add some fat! FFS not a chance as I've worked hard to get where I want to be.

Here's the detail in anyone understands it better than I do..

3% body fat? Have I read that correctly?

If so I'd suggest the results aren't completely accurate.

Do you have any pics of yourself? You must be SHREDDED.

PS Nice work though, sounds like you're obviously very lean, if you feel good I'd carry on as you are and take the results with a pinch of salt, literally.

Yeah its accurate apparently.

Thing is that lately I've not been feeling great.

Been feeling drained. Not been sleeping and when I do I'm waking drenched with sweat. Real bad night sweats.

Wife thinks I'm over training and this is all tied in.

Seem to have lost my libido at the same time.

If you are legitimately 3% then no wonder you're having sleeplessness nights and have lost all libido hehe

3% body fat would be lower than most bodybuilders can achieve during competition. You're either completely shredded or it's not accurate.

I'd say you're not 3% BF, and the scan isn't accurate. 3% is pretty much unsustainable and you'd encounter serious health issues if there for more than a short stint. You'd feel awful and your metabolism would be shot.

If you are 3% you're pretty much skin over muscle- any you'll look incredibly ripped. Also, if you are, do something about it before you do some serious damage.

You're under fuelled, while the result may not be totally accurate you need to eat more good food.

Sounds like a classic case of malnourished to me. You can have some of my fat if you wish, I could do with getting rid of some wink

If you were seriously overtraining your heeartrate would be all over the place and cortisol levels completely shot. Imagine you're living in a constant fight or flight state of nerves. Other symptoms would match the scenario you describe above. At over 6' and male you should weigh more than 71 kg. I'll bet you look pretty cadaverous at the moment and though to your eyes this might be OK, medically - as others have said - you are going to be in serious trouble if you carry on like this.

Here's a quick pic

Nothing like the pics above though.

I think the undernourished comment is probably spot on. Thing is I east extremely well in terms of food choices.

I've also noticed rashy type spots on the torso since the night sweats started and no creams I've tried are helping

id say thats a good look the day youre being weighed for a fight, and not a good look the other days of the year.

Malnourished, too dehydrated, over training.

Loss of libido is well known in sport when the athletes are focussed on a specific target, but not an on going thing

Looks like a surprised asian person!

By the way - the results aren't accurate, wouldn't worry, don't over analyse.

It's strange though and I feel awkward admitting it...I know what you guys are saying and I know I need to back off but I find it difficult.

A silly but very common thing is this...if I have a st session or feel drained and maybe don't complete my routine or do as well as the day before then it stresses me out and start feeling down about it. Sad but true.

Also if I weigh myself (same time every morning) and it's gone up say by 1kg then I get the same feeling and then either teaing for longer that day or add in another cardio session.

Again I'm embarrassed saying all this but at the same time it's good to get it off my chest

You are probably aware but you have or are on the verge of an eating disorder. Sorry but someone has to say it.

Sounds like exercise addiction.

I don't exercise anywhere near as much as you but I also get feelings of guilt / shame when I miss a session or don't do it as often as I feel like I should. It's important to remind yourself that it doesn't matter in the grand scheme.

Also you don't look anywhere near 3% on the photo, more like just below 10 maybe if i was guessing. The offer of some of my fat stands though smile

Recovery and diet are as much a part of training as the training it's self. Progress is not linear, you need to know when to back of before you can push forward again, otherwise you will regress.

Get that into your mind, and you'll realise that progress is faster when you recover more. And progress is what you seek.

Yeah - couldn't agree more. The cycle of fuel -> train -> refuel ->rest&recover -> repeat needs to be successful in each step, or it breaks down. I would say you've got the training nailed (or over-nailed) but need to work on the other three.

Likewise, understanding your short and long term priorities and what feeds what (and this is different and personal to everyone) will help structure and focus your day to day and week to week decisions. If your goal is to be super fit and healthy, talk to a trainer and/or nutritionist face to face who can help with that. Think of it this way, this is an opportunity to grow and learn. And don't be embarrassed either. Asking for advice/help/just talking about something that stresses us out is something we do every day about the "little stuff". Just when it's something close to us and important, it somehow becomes harder to do.
