The standard watch is a thing of beauty, with the contrasting finishes on the case and bracelet. This poor thing looks plastidipped.
I adore that we all have differing tastes! It looks like a rejected design for a 70's television to me... Awful, shiny, tinny, scratch-magnet that relies on a name. jshell said:

I much prefer a the oft compared other Genta classic, the Royal Oak, actually. Please don't come out with more comments on that one, please :-)

Edit to add that I've just noticed what regular 5711 models are currently going for.
f
king Hell.
The bubble will have to burst on some PP pricing soon - mad prices.f
king Hell. And I hope not. One i have was purchased for £13k, its now between £40K to £50k, not bad for an 11 year "investment"
Moot really, as it's never being sold.

Bubbles generally burst when the fundamental value of the asset can no longer support the price. And some other reasons too... I am watching this happen in the vintage car market at the moment, which is going very soft. And I hope not. I have a Patek that I wear every day - so I'm not bothered about it's value, but it's amusing to have seen it's price double.
The Nautilus is a very nice watch, discreet, slim, good movement, wearable... but at the current prices? Mad.
I suppose if watches are bought 'as an investment' then it's different. I buy them to wear - no other reason.

I agree, to a degree-I have a Patek that I wear every day - so I'm not bothered about it's value, but it's amusing to have seen it's price double.

I have also followed classic cars and you are right they are struggling now having gone up quickly.
Friend of mine owns a high end jewellers and i was talking to him just this Saturday.
He said he knows of plenty of collectors that still chase watches (the rare stuff) and his own turnover for watches is as good as its ever been.
I think there is a wider audience for rare watches compared to classic cars plus you don't tend to end up with nasty rust repair bills etc.
The 5711 for example has a 10yr wait list now so they have closed the books. That tells me demand is still strong.
I don't own a collection of watches btw so I've no dog in the fight....
PS a Patek blue face Double Sealed so never touched sold within 48 hrs for 70k
PPS Patek have taken the 5711 off the website now too
