I took my rad in to ScotRad for a re-core today, having removed it myself this morning (car was going nowhere with a leak like that...). Two questions now arise:
1) Should I have rubber washers (or similar) on the mounting bolts at the top, or only on the pegs at the bottom? Seems pointless to isolate vibration through the pins and then hard-fix it at the top!
2) For my piece of mind, is it even vaguely possible to remove the passenger-side retaining bolt without undoing the air hose? Couldn't get enough movement to undo it with a ratchet from above, and hose got in the way if I tried to put even a short extension on...

I changed mine a few weeks ago and had rubbers at all four mounting points. I also removed the air hose rather than fart around trying to get around it, it`s not as difficult as you think to get the hose off. Undo the clip on both ends, carefully pull the hose of of the air filter and the flow meter and then gently "unscrew" the hose out of the front bulkhead.
410 Gorgie Road, Edi (opposite BT, down the side of a little garageMOT place). They also DON'T appear to have a site at www-dot-scotrad-dot-com, although my copy of Yellow Pages alleges that they do. They're charging me £125+VAT to re-core my Chim (4-core) rad, and take cashcheque.
Note, though, that despite how short a drive your memory will tell you it is, it's a veru long walk from Stockbridge if you're carrying said radiator, and the rad gets heavier the longer you're carrying it...

I tend to use grommetts simply because they are easier to locate (stick a screwdriver in the flange) washers tend to keep falling out when trying to get into position....
Just holding a spanner on the rad side, and undoing frm the grille side works for me, no need to move air duct.

PS well worth having a bung put in so you can have an otter switch by the rad outlet....
