What is the World coming to ?

I really do despair. Everyday I seem to encounter more bad manners, selfishness and plain aggression on the roads.
Halfway down our road is an extreme 90’ lefthander. It’s also extremely steep with cars parked on both sides.
Kids often play on the road so I usually employ engine braking in 2nd and this usually keeps the car at about 10mph or so.
Just as I reach the apex of the bend some one celled muscle bound t#at in an old blue Sierra comes belting around the corner and has to do an emergency stop to stop from hitting me. He then sits their and raises his arms as if to say what do you ‘expect me to do.’
His options are to pull forward 10 feet and pull into someone’s drive. Mine are to reverse 50yds up a steep hill , round a bend through a narrow gap with cars on both sides.
So I point at the drive and wait. After about 30 seconds when its clear I will not be reversing up the hill he wheel spins and dives into the driveway. As I pass he sticks his head out of the window and I’m subjected to just about every expletive you could imagine.
It would have been very easy to just wind down the window and punch the #ucker full in the face.

I had a very similar experience the other day - very tight right hand residential street, cars parked both sides, and I know that cars coming the other way have done so down a long straight and so I approach it very slowly and cautiously.
So I'm just approaching the apex when a bloke in a big white Volvo has literally to stand on the brakes to avoid hitting me. Knob-end. I, by contrast, am noble so I reversed to let him by. As they passed both he and his male passenger glowered at me in the way that only Traffic Policemen know how.

Violence is the ony way you can get through to such morons.
It would be nice to politely ask him to hang on a sec whilst you park your car up so you can discuss the matter further, then covertly reaching for the trusty baseball bat.
I must admit, I love the Deathwish films.
I'm only 38 myself but the re-introduction of military service, corporal punishment and discipline in schools would do wonders!!!

I disagree
I find the rudest most arrogant people and subsequently the most dangerous are the 50+ year olds round here.
They simply do whatever they want, never indicate, straightline roundabouts, never give way and if you dare so much as raise an eyebrow you get a whole load of "Respect your elders"...
Erm....
Respect is earned not given dudes - I respect people that are polite and are willing to learn and keep up with at least the very basics of road driving.
I have said before that, in the south west, the most danger comes from the older gentlemen and the middle aged woman. I cant say I have had a problem with a chavvy young kid yet (im only 25!!). They may hoon around and act like d!cks by playing loud music in the town centre BUT they usually give way when necessary and most of them use their indicators occasional and most importantly - KNOW HOW TO USE A ROUNDABOUT!!!
Tis not always the young that needs educating...

Am I the only one who thinks that driving standards are slipping across the board and dangerous & discourtieous driving, along with road rage is on the rise among all sections of society regardless of race, age, sex, social standing or earnings?
I cant pick out a particular demographic as being particularly guilty

On the way home yesterday, have to go through some roadworks where the whole lane in m direction is coned off for about 200 yards. Thus, there are traffic lights to allow each direction access to the one lane. Well, I was following about 12 other cars through this lane, and I saw an ambulance coming the other way, lights a-blazing and clearly in a rush. There was noone behind me, so I stopped in the middle of the roadworks, opposite a turn in to an industrial estate, so the ambulance could come through. Ambulance comes through, waves a thanks and disappears. In the meantime, the lights change. What happens next? Did they let me carry on and clear the roadworks? Do they boll*cks. Not only do they come through, leaving me sitting like a nob in the middle of a set of roadworks, but I was verbally abused by 3 drivers (all 40-50 coincidentally!) for being in their way. I gently pointed out that it might have been someones kid in the back of the ambulance, and was less gently told to
off. What is the world coming to indeed...
off. What is the world coming to indeed...Its not so much what's this world coming to as what's this country coming to.
Just recently I've spent a week in France and a long weekend in Germany.
Everywhere I went I met nothing other than total civility. Everywhere was clean and litterfree. Everywhere I ate and drank etc I enjoyed terrific service from civilised, pleasant well trained staff.
The weekend in Germany was at the Nordschleife. Being a bank holiday the place was really busy. There must have been hundreds of people there, yet I didn't once see anybody spit, and I never once encountered anything that even faintly resembled a bad attitude.
Well, except the biker and car driver I heard had a punch up out on the circuit after a collision!
I just don't know how we have got it so wrong, here in the UK.

Imagine the scene, north Norfolk and one of the single principle roads out of Norwich along the coast. Its night and coming up to some traffic lighted roadworks. Lights on red and stop.
Hark, what can we hear? Sirens? See flashing blue lights? Ah, emergency services. Knowing full well that the roadworks are nearly 1 mile long and very tortuous, its a good idea to let them go first....
Anyway, que beeping horns and flashing lights. Driver behind starts shouting abuse. My SiL, who was driving, winds down the window and shouts "look behind you, f
ing idiot".... just as a the ambulance approaches. Driver looks confused and realises that he has failed to see, hear and comprehend that the entire area is bathed in flashing blue light and the siren is now deafening....
It is astonishing that people can like in their own little cocoon and fail to realise that other peoples lives exist outside of theirs. The understanding of life seems to escape them, nevermind that their driving standards are dropping...
