Interesting programme. Anyone who can do mental arithmatic amazes me 
I hit an instant mental brick wall whenever anyone asks me to add even basic numbers.
That rain man guy who reads one page with one eye and teh other page with teh other and remembers everything he has ever read!.

My sister is Autistic, very very odd creature indeed, hugely funny, saddening, interesting. She's got the whole line drawing thing off to a tee and her approach is most odd.
It's true to say that they are totally failed by our present system.
They are always entertaining as Jess knows
She's been well behaved for about a month, so we're overdue some madness......
I think most autistic people get obsessed with something and work out the best way to do it in their heads without anyone polluting their ideas. Katherines approach to drawing is certainly an oddity but it does have a structure, I'm sure psychologists could learn a massive amount by watching them, but pretty much nobody shows any interest beyond that of a freakshow.
Their loss though.

If two savants had children, would they be savants also?
It just shows what can happen when the brain is wired up differently. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to confer an evolutionary advantage so it's not selected. When it come to passing on genes, our chav friends are leading the way.

There is a correlation between intelligence and genetics, hence super families, ie:- Bach, Darwin. Whilst environmental influences are neceesary to realise the full potential, you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Exceptional intelligence is multifactorial and on several chromosomes, I'm not sure which or the probablilities but it has to be pretty concentrated to be passed on.
The guy was amazing.
The relationship with numbers and shapes was strange, but as explained, that is the way his brain works.
For shapes linked to numbers that are seen in an everyday life (eg. skyscrapers) must be a little strange.
Although I was impressed with his brain power, I would not like to see the world through his eyes.
