My wife reversed her Tesla into a post.

The quote from a body shop was a ridiculously eye-watering amount - apparently they have to saw off the spoiler and junk the glass.

Would a smart repair work here? I’d settle for a 95% result...

The paint isn’t broken.

If it works, does anyone have a recommendation? I’d want someone excellent, given the value of the car. Willing to travel (within reason) but ideally south east (London / Cambridge axis)

Any decent bodyshop should be able to do that, smart repair wont, I had similar repaired where the drilled a hole in the crease and used a tool to pull it 95% way back into shape, small amount of filler, unavoidable and all done, shouldn't cost much and definitely don't need to saw anything off, unfortunately my guy is in Reading !!!!

Drilling holes in bodywork to pull out a dent is the biggest bodge in the universe.
That's what they used to do 40 years ago !

Take a long thin flexible strip of wood or plastic & bend it across the undamaged parts to bridge the damage.
You'll then have an idea of just how far its pushed in.

That isn't PDR territory.

BTW your blocking out of the number plate doesn't work.

A good operative would make a good dent in that damage no pun intended.

I agree that it's not Smart Repair territory. And inform your wife that those little round circles on the bumpers are parking sensors. When they're squealing like Tweety Pie she needs to press the middle pedal.

Mind, her indoors did the same thing on Christmas day, reversing in to her parents gate post, whilst on a continuous tone rolleyes

Perhaps you could give a recommendation based on your experience of similar damage.
Contact name & phone number for your PDR guy would be great & some idea of what he charged.

In the Leicester/East Midlands area I usually suggest Dent Brothers or Dent Technique if something appears suitable for PDR rather than a SMART or bodyshop repair. I will advise customers accordingly & I've been recommending them for years. Seen a lot of 'befores' and also seen ( or rather not seen IYSWIM !) quite a few of the 'afters' as well.
Possibly cost me a bit of business, but I prefer to be completely straight with people & do get a lot of repeat business & recommendations as a result.

I put a short crease from one of the rear doors onto the quarter panel of wife's Tiguan - I'd resigned myself to it being repaired at a bodyshop but a local (Chester) PDR guy who was here getting rid of all the multiple parking dings the car had said he'd have a go at it.

He glued a puller to the surface and did a remarkable job especially at the seam on the door edge but he couldn't quite get the edge from the quarter panel to door shut 100%. I think it's good enough on her car - you wouldn't see it unless it was pointed out.

I was amazed how quick he was - one of the parking dings was about a foot long on the front passenger door and that, and the others, are completely invisible now - he did the whole lot in 90mins.
