Return license after fixed penalty notice - req for car hire

Hoping someone on here can help. I will be receiving a FPN (3 points & £100) within the next week.

I'm be going on holiday to the USA in exactly 3 weeks time and have car hire booked which requires me to have the physical license in hand in order to collect the car.

I'll pay the fine and I gather I send or take my license somewhere to get the points added?

What are other people experience of how long it took to get their license back? Just trying to get a heads up of what exactly the process is for that and paying the fine? I read 3 weeks but is this a maximum to cover them? I also read that I have to do this within 28 days.

The AskThePolice website says that I have to take my license to a police station and talk to the 'Ticket Enforcement Section' to see if they are willing to grant an extension but that looks like old advice and I thought it needed to be posted somewhere.

Not had a speeding fine in more than 10 yrs. Back then you had to send your paper licence in and they scribbled the details of the offence in the relevant section.
Isn't it all done digitally nowadays? Would not think you have to send your licence anywhere.

It’s all done digitally, but to keep someone in a job, you have to send your picture licence in, so they can just send it straight back to you. Absolutely zero point in said exercise, but hey how, they have the power over us.

In Scotland at least you can take your licence and fpn into the local court and pay the fine over the counter. You then don't need to send your licence away.

How do you know you're receiving a FPN within the next week?

Have you already received a "notice of intended prosecution" or were you stopped and dealt with by a human?

You could apply for a new licence having 'lost' yours, then send that for the points issue if/when it happens.
That will leave you with a licence to show the car hire people.
A lot of high-mileage business drivers who often travel overseas and need to hire cars on a regular basis do this and there are no problems with it,

Yes received NIP and sent back, was caught by a mobile van. Basing on other people experiences they get the FPN within a week or so
