Does anyone know whether the valves in the exhaust are in the open or closed position with the ignition off? The workshop manual is not clear; it simply says 'As engine speed increases from idle, the bypass valve is open until the engine speed is 1500 rpm'.

It sort of implies that at idle, they are actually closed until you open the throttle, which would indicate they are closed before the ignition is turned on.

They are open at idle, and by default are sprung loaded open. With the ignition off they remain in the open position
