Anybody have a good knowledge of Kia? Particularly the transmission set up?
My dads Kia picanto snapped a gear stick cable, I replaced the cable but lost first and second gear for some reason, changed the gear selector lever on top of the gearbox and tried again.
It appears first and second gear have moved, they are now more towards the centre of the gearstick change.
First used to be push left and up, third was straight up and fifth was push right and up. First now seem only a very slight movement to the left and up, also, while in neutral if I push the gearstick to the right and release it, it pings back to the centre, of I push it left it just sits there and doesn’t ping back.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue??

No, they're all down at the local Kia specialists - where you should be.

Yet another idiotic tightwad who thinks professional Kia mechanics hang out on PH to dole out technical advice for free on a daily basis.

Can't be much help on Kia's, but might be worth pulling the new cable off and seeing if you still have issues moving the gearstick left - Could be some part of the old cable stuck somewhere.

The simple answer is you appear to have done something wrong.

Could be something put not put back right, could be some adjustment required on the cable, shouldn't be a big deal to find with someone under the car & someone inside to move/attempt gear changes to see what is happening/not happening.
