Been eyeing up a used A5 or A6, max price about £25k I’m getting 2017/18 models frustratingly for the A6 they still the none facelifts.
Looking at petrols so was wondering what the story is on that Tsfi 2.0 they have, would it be worth going 3.0 diesel instead? Gorgeous interiors and good tech but are these the kind of cars that are good to lease but ‘you wouldn’t want to own without a warranty’?
Also having sneaking looks at A8s.... would have to be diesel but I’m happy enough with a 6 cylinder diesel. What are these like for reliability (electrical and mechanical)?

I'd be avoiding diesels if i could but would probably hunt out a 3.0 or bigger petrol variant.
Money is upped to the absolute maximum I’m afraid, I did have a couple of sly glances at an s5, they are surprisingly affordable but if I get the 2.0 I can afford the latest shape and interior, where as s5 would be the previous.
How would the S5 compare to the bmw 440i? The BMs I can afford have the better interior and I’d go for the 3.0 petrol. Tbh I’m looking more for a nice engine note more than anything haha.

You can get a 2017 S5 for around £30k, if you wait a couple of months, all the leased ones will be being returned (they had a very good deal on 2 years ago) which should help bring the price down a little. Don't quote me on that, but is what usually happens.
I haven't heard a 440i but have heard a couple of 140i's, which has the same engine, and a new S5. I think they make a sweeter and louder noise than the S5 (personal opinion).

I could wait a couple of months tbh I’m in no rush, if the new shape s5 comes into my range then I’ll just go for that over the 4 series as I absolutely love that interior. I’m looking at the 4 series because I could get a good one right now.
I’m unsure wether to bother with the bigger engines though or just get a 2.0 litre and a better spec car. I’m guessing these will sound naff though.
Getting the 2.0 is the ‘sensible’ option as I won’t stretch myself financially and have cheaper running costs than I do now (v6 3.0 diesel).

Re the S4/S5 deals now going back, these were £8k - £8.5k to run over 2 years, inc VAT and Tax for example.
The A6 can be had for around the same with the Tsfi 2.0 engine.
This is based on 10k per annum.
Diesels seem to be pretty week at the moment so probably deals to be done on a used one.

It's a decent engine, fairly refined and punchy. I've not done many miles in one however, so others will be better placed to comment.The key with a lease car is to add zero-spec.
