218k V70 D5 Shed-o-rama
Discussion
These are great buys. My mum had a D5 auto in black with spoiler and cream leather and put 190k on it from new, only thing that went wrong with it was the key insert collapsing but it's a common known fault. Brilliant cars and sound great for a diesel. Any plans to remap it? Think around 200 bhp 320 lbs ft can be liberated from these which are 163 251 stock.

Great stuff!
I have a 54 plate V70 D5 SE manual, 134k miles on the clock and I have to say I really do love the old bus!
Its only about £120 to have the steering rack refurbished, but not a job for the faint hearted. WIth that in mind, I'm doing mine later this summer
It's usually the internal seals that fail and give that kicking feeling isn't it? Especially on long sweeping bends on the motorway where it pulses in your hands, mine started doing that before I sold it.I have a 54 plate V70 D5 SE manual, 134k miles on the clock and I have to say I really do love the old bus!

Actually really miss having a handy estate these days.
I had one of these from 120k to 272k at which point I sold it to a mate, who’s still running it. Fantastic cars.
Had the steering pulsing most of that time, never fixed it, didn’t get worse.
Had the common core plug / significant oil leak- hope yours has been done already?
I’ve seen most of the common faults on these, PM me if you’re stuck with anything.
Now have a V70R - good stealth car with an appetite for expensive parts!

You seem to take the same approach to car DIY as myself. Get the car just high enough to slide under and spend as minimal time under there as possible.
I figure that even if I only ever do bog standard servicing, the tools pay for themselves after just a few services. The fact I’ve been able to do a few electrical jobs since is a Brucey bonus. Filters are child’s play, and even oil isn’t that bad, just don’t spill it.
Keep up the good work, barges are usually good to you in return if you keep on top of maintenance.

You need a pair of lower arms, some bulbs and a seatbelt from a scrapper. That's par for the course in shed territory, and all of those are pretty easy to fix. You should be able to do it all yourself given some time and will power
No idea on the cost of lower arms on those but I'd guess you'd save at least £400 of that 'quote' by taking it on yourself!

pretty quick and easy to replace tbh
the handbrake is par for the course too, probably needs a strip and clean/grease reassemble unless the material has come away from the shoe (they do this)
the bulbs and seat belt shouldn't be a drama
it'd be a shame to scrap it
