The current top tyre
Discussion
Hi All.
I've come back to biking after a long time away. I was wondering what the current tyre choice is for sports bikes?
I've got a 2003 ZX6R and it needs new boots.
I used to know all this stuff but it's been too long now and tyres have come a long way.
Not looking for ultimate track day rubber, just something that works well on the road.
Cheers

Bridgestone S22 I think is the current top dog, and they are cheap at the minute on oponeo, depends what you want, no-one needs super sticky track tyres that last 500 miles for road riding, most top range sports touring tyres will do for most, so Mich Road5, or Metz M1, or Pirelli Angel 2 or Roadsmart 3.

Although they have been out for a while the Metzeler M7RR is still the best option for sporty road.
I used these tires for years and they are good, I could knee down and put the front to the edge (not bragging, for me this is a big achievement).Still, I would like to try something new, most likely I will go with S22 or Conti SportAttack3 next time, because I want to see if the feel from the front tire is better than on M7RR.
M7RR are great cold/rainy weather tires though.
S22 for sporty road and Michelin Road 5 for sport touring from internet based research. Just about to put the latter on my MT10 so will report back.
Would have gone S22 having used S21 previously however I have just killed off a brand new S21 rear in 2000 miles while on a tour of Spain so could get pricey!

Not the best in my opinion. Good wet and cold but lack 'feel' and move like a b
h on the back if you get a lick onThe majority of the time people recommend the current tyre they have as the best as that’s what they spent their money on.
Had 3 sets of Super Corsa SP over last few years as thats what my MV came with. Recently changed to Pirelli Diablo Rossi Corsa II. For quick road use so far, 1500 miles in , look hardly worn and not noticed any negatives compared with Super Corsa. Dont intentionally ride in the wet, so dry use only, 7 deg ambient upwards, all fine.
If I get twice the mileage and the perceived same level of performance, I will be happy....always thought the Super Corsa were a bit OTT for road riding if you are not trying to qualify for the TT

I know a new tyre has been purchased but the current TOP tyre depends entirely on what you are going to do with the bike and where you're going to be riding. Track or road, wet or dry (or both), long motorways or short blasts down winding country roads, mirror smooth tarmac or freshly laid loose chippings. Chuck in the fact that one mans reasonable price is another mans horrendously expensive, one mans reasonable mileage from a tyre is another mans total riding for the next 10 years, and a few biases along the lines of "I'll never use XYZ brand because I rode a knackered old Yam XS1100 on that make in 1978 and it didn't handle very well" and finding a single top tyre is impossible.
What you can say is that, if you stick to the known brand names, it's near impossible to buy a bad tyre. Sports tyres grip better, give more feel bur wear out much quicker. They also may be less confidence inspiring in the rain.
Sports touring tyres last longer but, on the road, will have more capability than you could ever use on any bike safely. Their wet weather performance is also significantly better.
You pays your money and takes your choice.
PS My next tyres will be Michelin PR5s, going on this afternoon!

Actually, as far as I understand, Metzeler M7RR were developed base on IOMTT experience. If I get twice the mileage and the perceived same level of performance, I will be happy....always thought the Super Corsa were a bit OTT for road riding if you are not trying to qualify for the TT

Personally OP I wouldn't listen to any of these idiots; what you need is a set of F*ckstones!
