Houx electric hookup
Discussion
hello all,
this year we find ourselves on the Houx campsite for the first time. I had a look on beer mountain and it mentioned that each pitch has an electric hookup. my previous le mans experience has me thinking that soap in the toilets would be a major step forward so I cant quite believe the idea of electricity.
has anyone used this site got any real world experience?
if it actually works ok we're going o have to re-plan our packing!
thanks
paul

We camped in Houx back in 2016 and we're not that far from the squat bogs. No eleccy per pitch, but there was eleccy plug-in boards on poles which serviced a certain number of pitches. You'll need a long extension lead (unless you're lucky to be next to one of the boards) to bring the eleccy to your pitch.
You'll need a variety of adaptors as well.
The endpoint on the bollard is a big camping/caravan plug, then people add in splitters with UK and Euro domestic plugs and start daisy chainging from one plot to the next, so depending who is near you determines what plugs you'll need.
The supply is pretty stable so can run fridges etc.

If possible, get those 1 to 3 splitter things...came in handy for us when a late-comer decided to unplug and nick our power socket whilst we were out visiting the track on the Friday. Instead of kicking off, we unplugged him, plugged in the splitter and then hooked him and ourselves back up.paul
Generally they work OK.
One year we were camped next to a plug tower, quite interesting to see the wiring!
Every so often a guy would pass by to inspect the tower (ticked a box on a form to say there was no smoke or flames I expect!)
Also had a few engineers out when the power tripped. Seems some campers were running something like 2 freezers a fridge a cooker etc on one plug.
Arrival on Thursday should see you OK, most people are OK with sharing anyway

We camp here each year, it’s a really good site for the location alone but with electricity hooked up to a camping fridge makes for properly cold beer. Wouldn’t camp anywhere else now!
They have updated the electric hook ups in recent years I think and we’ve never had a problem being able to find a plug or reliability. Connections are standard 3 pin blue plugs.
One of these will do you well:

I would add that if a plug is taped in and an effort has been made to ensure its not removed easily bear in mind that this may have a large supply already! Last year three motor homes came off one plug. If you put a three way on that it will almost certainly trip.
Follow a lead see where it goes and ask. It’s better then an annoyed camper coming and finding you later.
