I've been self servicing for a few years now including difficult things like propshaft greasing, drivetrain oil changes, etc. but I've never changed the fuel filter. I know the service schedule say two yearly but how many miles should a filter last? mine has covered 11,000 miles without issue and the last time it was changed I opened the old one up to reveal a completely clean filter card. I'll be changing it this year but I'm thinking the schedule two year interval must relate to average car mileage which would be 24k miles

Exactly, but when you're only doing 2 or 3k per year the filter should be good for many years IMO

I dont do much mileage but aim for every 2 years as it costs very little to do.
Pita to change but worth it in my opinion.

I value my fuel inj's so 2 to 3 years is plenty I dont cover big miles so stick with this £ 7 for a Mann fuel filter dont break the bank, for those that use ECP for filters just make sure you dont use Crosland under no circumstances frown

Purchased by ECP around 2005 and sub standard cheap Chinese rubbish (nothing wrong with Chinese but this is cheap Chinese crap) I have witnessed 3 fuel filter failures now the last being a Merc recovered to me the style with built in FPR this thing could have gone up it was hemorrhaging fuel that fast frown not the same Crosland quality we once knew sadly they use to be like Coopers, AC Delco ,Unipart etc , I refuse to use this brand even if the customer supplied now , fortunately I have known for many years it came up in trade circles and we're like a women's knitting circle when it comes to stuff like this biglaugh

Your welcome John , wink just found this and I quote sounds very similar to what I heard years back " Many years ago Crosland were a real major player in the filter world. I sold them for over ten years. Crosland were then sold to Sogefi who own Fram, Purflux and a few others. Euro car parts bought the name only, no development, no technical back up, nothing. Just the name. Now they buy the cheapest filters from around the world you've never heard of box them and sell on the perceived quality of the name. Would you put the cheapest on your car ??? " hope this helps cool

I mentioned on another thread how respected parts dealers have got that reputation and I’ve seen evidence of a parts guy bringing a new but unproven part for the boss to look at and he dismissed it as something they wouldn’t risk selling.

This is why I sometimes pay Tvr tax,, you just don’t know what your buying somedays, even when it comes in a branded box.
If a mechanic fits parts on cars they service and need to keep the custom he fits stuff he trusts over years of experience.
If he happens to have a parts dept as part of his business most stuff is likely to work. smile

Neither TVR Parts, Racetech or Powers state who supplied their fuel filters. I'm trying to ensure I don't inadvertently fit a Crossland filter. Where do you guys get your decent filters from?

I used to use Euro but got fed up with artificial price hikes so now use a local factors who are no more expensive.
I try to stick to mann/wix filters from them but you can usially find what you want on ebay if you know the part number.

That doesn't surprise me after being a parts man years ago it’s hard won contacts I reckon.

No reason you can’t source your own parts with correct product details as many of us do.

I was at a specialist MG parts dealer not so long ago who concentrates mainly on older MG’s
The price of parts was shocking but priceless in their own way as he had everything that was worth having if your building from ground up.
Our Tvr tax ain't so bad when you put it into perspective smile

Looks like Europarts do a Mann WK830 filter for £10. I guess that'll have to do

It's 8 mm inside diameter and roughly 14 mm outside diameter. The outside diameter may vary slightly on different quality hoses.
