Suspension

Hi there folks,

Been thinking for a while now about upgrading my suspension to either nitrons or Avo's!!! Was looking on Joospeed's website as he seems to be the god on these things and wanted to ring him and have a chat! But for the life of me I cant see his phone number anywhere!! Anyone out there that can help me?? Also, since there are a lot of you guys out there with experience with these things, what do you reckon is the best setup!!

I've stopped taking in work whilst is close the business, however the upgrade part is the bit that's going to keep going in my next project so I'll happily chat to you about modifying your car and on that front YHM

the part of the business that's closing is the servicing / water leaks / electrical gremlins / wind noise etc etc .. ie all the stuff that bores me rigid and earns no money.

modifying is what floats my boat so that's what i'm going to concentrate on

every man and his dog services TVRs now, so it's not like you're not spoilt for choice on that front.

I went for the Joospeed intermediate option which uses Protech dampers, and they're ace - beautifully made aluminium bodies with rose-jointed ends. Plus they're adjustable. The turn-in to corners is now much sharper and the ride comfort is way better than the stock suspension. Joolz is the man!

Have to agree with peterrosey. Jools supplied me with a set of Protech dampers and new springs and they're superb. IIRC they have a 3 year warranty too.

Real easy to fit, and my Cerb feels soooo much better. Tighter all round with much more precise turn in. Rear doesn't squat so much on hard acceleration either.

peterrosey, how do you have yours set up?
I have mine on 5 clicks back from hardest. Same front and rear at the moment. Ride height about 1" lower than standard. But do keep adjusting.

Protech set-up is a bit like nitron set-up .. because each kit is slightly different (well it is if you go for a bespoke build, the off the shelf kits are all the same of course) .. so set-up is purely personal preference, and one person's settings won't carry over to another car if the original kits were to different specs.

general rule for road is to run it as soft as you can whiilst still giving you the feedback and ride / traction compromise that suits you best. Only *you* know how you want your car to feel, so only *you* should do the final tweaking.

As you say .. keep playing until you find the compromise that's the best for you. Enjoy

Well cheers for your advice lads, I decided to go for a set of the intermediate option from Jools!!! Must say he was really helpful on the phone, thanks again mate!!! Now I just can't wait to see how she handles when I get them on

Well have got the suspension fitted and what can I say, cheers Joolz!!! Its completely changed the car and the way she feels!!! So much smoother now and feels so planted!!! Can't recommend them enough! Also thought id treat myself to a set of Falken FK451's and must say so far ive been really impressed, the grip in the wet is very good!!

But all good things come to an end, just got her running just as I wanted her and what does she do to me, yep the clutch goes!!! They weren't wrong when they say you need a sense of humour buying a Cerby eh!!! And it looks like getting one at the moment is not going to be easy, there are none out there to buy according to my TVR dealer, could be months!!!

So will just have to wash her and admire her for the time being, still love her to bits!!! Hope the weather improves so the rest of you can get out there and enjoy what I think is one of the best things on 4 wheels out there!!! Happy driving

His old business has finished but he will be starting up a new one soon covering TVR's but also Lotus and Noble's and the like. It will be more focused on track stuff, suspension, brakes and engine upgrades. Cant rate him highly enough, was very helpful in sorting out my suspension, a top bloke with loads of knowlodge

Chris (without trying to fuel the usual debate) Austec changed the clutch on my cerb a couple of weeks back and didnt seem to have any problem sourcing the parts. Maybe worth phoning around some other dealers (or good indies!) and ask rather than taking your local dealer's word as a 'given'?
