I think my trusty 8 year old Tough Solar is in need of a new battery, this morning it was showing "chg" (or something similar) and reset itself. Within a few minutes it's showing a high level of charge. I've noticed it do this a couple of times so think the battery may be a bit knackered (when not being worn at weekends, it normally sits on a windowsill)

Do I need a specific kind of battery? Are they silly money? I'm not one for messing about with watches other than strap adjustment so it'll need to go to a shop to be done

Thank you

Interested to find out as I have one that’s been consigned to the “knackered watch draw that I must get around to fixing one day”. Have an old Seiko Kinetic with a dead capacitor that’s also suffered the same fate waiting to be brought back to life.

My G shock would shut off and back on again. A Panasonic capacitor was £15 and I unscrewed the back to replace it. Was a pain making sure everything lined up once the guts had been replaced.

Eurgh so it's not as simple as a battery change then? I'll see how I get on with it then maybe find a Casio service centre if it keeps happening, it's only an £85 watch but no point getting rid if it can be fixed for £40.

Thanks chaps.

I decided to give this a go and bring my my old solar out of retirement. Got a new battery and o-ring off eBay for a few quid, and it took all of 5 mins to swap. Dead easy and loads of YouTube vids also.

The original strap mine came with was a canvas one with plastic clip buckle that after multiple “tours” in the Middle East was horribly frayed and dirty. So I replaced it with a NATO and I think it looks really rather good. biggrin

Hard to capture much of the strap as the watch and lugs are so wide, but it does look much better.

Looks good, mine has been behaving itself since this post so it's had a reprieve.
