My trusty old Spanset ratchet straps finally gave up after the recent TD to Aragon, luckily the bike stayed upright on the stillage (multiple straps).

So I need some new ones, I do have some other similar ratchet straps but they're nowhere near as easy to use even though the design is similar.

Any recommendations for moving bikes around?

I use a set like this ..... then just a single further strap from a footpeg backwards, although did once move a bike from the SE London flat to Nellys with just these as I forgot the extra strap, was fine ...... also nice and easy to balance out the tension and avoid blown fork seals .....

When the Old Gits trailered some bikes down to the South of France, we avoided using ratchet straps and, instead, used closed loop cam buckle straps. These have the advantage that, being closed loop, they'll never accidently become disconnected as ratchet straps with an S hook on the end can.

The other advantage is that I spoke nicely to my local BMW dealer who had literally hundreds of these used when new bikes are delivered that they just chuck in the bin, and I got a load for free! biggrin

None of the bikes moved from where they should have been despite some "enthusiastic" driving! wink

I bought a set of these from Damar...

...and they've been great on the couple of times I've used them. Good company to deal with and they deliver quickly.

I used to drive enthusiastically with the double axled trailer for my track car but since a tyre exploded during such sustained activity on the m4 I've calmed it back down.

Thule Buckle style straps work fine. Put four on a bike and it's not going anywhere.

Dirt cheap Decathlon ones work fine too.

The smaller ratchet straps are ok, but watch you don't twist an alloy subframe, getting carried away..

As an aside, definitely don't just rely on two straps. I hit a massive pothole on the M4 on the way back from pembrey last night and the shock snapped one of the hooks. With four straps the bike was fine but if I'd just used two I'd have lost the bike.

The shock dislodged my baffle too which is a bloody pain as it was a custom one for that silencer.

Costco do a decent set of 4 strap for s good price. I used these extensively for 10 plus years when I was doing regular track days and trailering the bike.

Wow, that black BM closest to camera looks like it won't be going anywhere than on that trailer! Pole through axle, pole bolted to axle stands, axle stands bolted to trailer!

I use this type of strap. The looped end is easy to find a good place to strap to the bike and you dont have to worry about over tightening them.
