Has anybody purchased one of those leak down kits and used them successfully ?

Any recommendations ?

"those" kits ? is a little unspecific.

And what would you deem success or failure ?

Well you can buy a kit that lets you perform a leak down test.

If it tells me I have an injector that is pissing out and I replace it and then things work better - that's a success !!

If it tells me that they are all within acceptable limits and I therefore search and find the problem elsewhere - then that is also a success.

If I buy a kit and nothing really fits (when it is supposed too) and therefore I can't actually perform anything and I have wasted my money and time - then that's a failure.

I assumed you were referring to a cylinder leakdown tester, which won't tell you anything about injectors. To test for injector leakage, you would need a fuel pressure gauge.

What's your actual problem?

Problem with a non-starting (sometimes) Mondeo TDCI . A couple of error codes appear suggesting low fuel pressure.

Last time it happened a garage said they were going to change all the glow plugs (didn't even do a code check). I told them to change the fuel filter which worked and it's been ok for the last 3 months.

Refused to start last Sunday but got it going with a squirt of easy start. Took it to a friend's garage but it started everyday/night showing no error codes. Picked it up and 5 miles down the road the engine stalled, turned it off and re started it - fine since . Another couple of error codes appeared suggesting low fuel pressure. A leak down test suggests if the injectors are performing within acceptable range or leaking too much back to the tank causing a loss in fuel pressure.

It's that that I'm trying to prove.

Yes, I'll think i'll do that. What shall I use to test for leakage ?

A few posts recently have mentioned fuel supply related problems caused by a leak in the fuel pickup tube. If you can recognise any correlation with fuel level, parked on a slope etc that might point in that sort of direction too.

As said above do a leak off test first but they do suffer from cam sensors going down causing non start and cutting out when hot .
