2015 Mercedes CLS or BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe?

Hello All - looking for a stylish motor that meets the following requirements:

(a) ULEZ compliant;

(b) suitable for daily driving around town and for weekend jaunts with the missus and little one;

(c) has some presence on the road; and

(d) budget of 15k-20k.

I can't see past a CLS or 6 Series GC (or anything else German for that matter). Thoughts on these e.g. which is better looking, a better drive etc?

Interested to hear about other suitable options too.

I don't think either of those 2 example are ULEZ compliant?

Why would you choose the Jag though, over the others? I find myself having to make the same decision [but I want an estate] and am struggling to decide if I prefer the XF Sportback or the CLS Shooting Brake!

No experience of either but IMO the 6 series GC is a great looking car.

640D GC is one of the best overall packages going IMHO as offers practicality, luxury, performance and driving experience. The engine and gearbox in particular are far superior to anything MB offer.

They are a big beast though so parking etc. would need to be a consideration.

Yes they are all petrols from 2005 onwards are ULEZ compliant, the Jags ride better imo & I personally prefer their overall package, the CLS is great but the only place it's better is in the infotainment area.

The 6 Series GC is the best looking but finding a good petrol one is hard to find:

OMG...I automatically thought those 2 Jags were diesel, as most are! Other then the XFR, I didn't really think there was further petrol options! You've just opened up a new car for me to research I wonder how rare they are and if they are much 'better' than the R on fuel?

Mind you, I know they didn't make a petrol Sportbrake [other than the XFR-S], and I'd prefer a SB over a saloon. Why Jaguar why

A consideration is whether or not you need that 5th seat. In saloon guise, the CLS is a strict 4 whereas the 6GC can technically seat 5.

They're very good & the engine is a peach with a lovely note it's actually a better car than the XE S, you could also buy it on the next generation XF:

I've been looking at the same and can't see past the 6 series.

I had a 640d coupe(covered 70k miles in it) and it was a lovely car, a fantastic performance/economy mix and for me personally one of the best looking cars I've had.

Only niggles for me were the steering(not mega communicative), the size of the car in car parks and the ride on 20" wheels with run flats Is seriously harsh over poor road surfaces.

Any support for the Porsche Panamera, though that’s probably more around the £25k mark and a little bit older?

The Panamera's looks are a bit marmite for me but everything I've read about them has been positive.

Agreed. It seems to be a brilliant all rounder. 2012 models are going for sub-25k now (with up to 70k miles on the clock) but the concern is whether there would be further heavy depreciation after a further 3 years/30k miles of ownership.

Thoughts if it was a decision between the Porsche, BMW and the Merc? I suspect the Merc will come in 3rd place.
