Tyres For 987.2 Boxster 19" Sport Design
Discussion
Hi,
Looking for some tyres for 19" Sport Design (style 367) wheels. Looked around at the what's available and the N approved tyres are old - F1 Asymmetric 2 or PS2s. Some I'm thinking of going rogue and looking at F1 Asymmetric 5 or PS4 S. The front would stay at 235/35 R19. The rear size would change
265/35 R19 to 275/35 R19. They fit on the alloys but question is would the handling and the balance be affected? I wondering increasing the grip on the rear would make the car understeery?
Thanks
Hayden

I like your thinking...Been reading if I don’t fit N rates it may affect the extended warranty8( bit shocked!!!
I’m in the same warranty boat, in which case N2 Michelin PS2s are the answer. I also have a second set of wheels with N1 Pirelli Sottozeros on them for winter time. This keeps me warranty ‘legal’ but safe throughout the year.FYI had warranty not been a restriction I’d have Vresestein Ultrac Vortis on. Excellent tyre performance and very well priced.
Hi,
Sorry for the late response but I have been un-able to respond in the evenings as the forums are closed to posting from newish members. Unfortunately to keep my two year warranty and future renewals in-tact I have stick to the N standard. I have read these are specifically developed for the 987 Boxster rather than tyre company sending a set tyres and a brown envelope stuffed full of money - to pay for the test of course - if it (tyre) meets the pass mark for the tests it gets the N approved. i.e. no bespoke development for the Boxster it's the same tyre. I'm hoping the somebody could clarify if my cynical view is right or wrong?
Thanks

You’re correct re the warranty renewals, you’re effectively tied in to old technology. Having said this the PS2 is an excellent tyre and you won’t be disappointed, although knowing the PS4 is better is slightly annoying! Out of your choice the PS2 is deemed the best, especially when it comes to grip, noise and longevity. I’ve heard reports that the Goodyears start off quiet but soon become noisy after a few mm.
The PS2s are a good compromise to keep the warranty in tact, my last set cost around £800, you may be able to get them slightly cheaper if you do the legwork yourself and buy them from Camskill.com and pay a small fitting fee at a local shop.
Hope this helps.
