vehicle inspection

theres a couple of classic cars in the cheshire area i may be interested in, im in lincolnshire. does any one know of any classic vehicle inspection services over cheshire way.

Either go over there and do it yourself and or take some one from that particular classic carclub with you.

In my experience secondhand vehicle inspections are a waste of time & money.

Should you buy a lemon, there will be no comeback on the inspector anyway.

I believe you have more chance of returning a car to a dealer if you haven't taken a declared 'expert' with you.
A car club 'marque specialist' is the way to go imo.

I think its a good idea to have an inspection, unless you are very confident.

Once you've taken out the travelling costs of you going to the car, it isn't that expensive, they are generally very thorough and they are sort of neutral which can be helpful in negotiation.

I've only used one once but he was excellent and gave me a lot of confidence in purchasing a car that was complex and difficult to asses (mid engine), and also had the potential for big bills if bought badly.

I sent the inspector (a marque specialist), he phoned me and fed back, I did the deal with the dealer over the phone. Went by train to pick car up next weekend.

As it happened, there was nothing really wrong with it, so you could argue that I wasted the money, but the confidence it gave me was very useful.

An inspection is Vital!
It can save one a lot of agro, let alone expense. For what it costs, it's a no brainer.
I have inspected many cars for clients, including traveling to Europe and Ireland to view cars and bikes.
I have also negotiated to buy, on behalf of the clients.

Just a thought, but it might be worth getting onto the relevant owners club forums and asking on them about marque specialists.

I bought a Cortina 1600e which was a long way from me and I arranged for the vehicle specialist from the local auction house to go and appraise it for me, including a drive of the car.

When the car arrived it was exactly as appraised.

I agree with this. An inspection gives you peace of mind, not a guarantee.
Owners club expert or marque specialist (local to you so he can see a long term relationship) maximises peace of mind but doesn't do anything if issues are later found.
