Can any of you comment on whether 'most' 964s have now had, by this point in time of their lives, the common problems associated with them (DMF, Dizzy pipe/ozone thingy, oil leak?) sorted?
If you assume say an early '90 964, which has been serviced by OPC or a specialist at the correct intervals, would it be correct to assume that the issues above have all been rectified?
Do all these problems come back at some point in it's life regardless or are they less likely or even not likely to return?

If the DMF has been changed then it should have been upgraded to the later model which then should be OK. Not sure how long the other bits last.

The main thing is don't assume anything - if the documentation's not there then walk away or you'll be taking a big risk.

The only thing that could possibly return after being fixed is oil leaks. Depends on the quality of the work done and the type of oil used in the engine.

Oil leaks in themselves aren't necessarily a reason to justify spending ££££s on a top-end rebuild. The decision is normally made because engines are down on power, running badly or leak / smoke A LOT.

I would guess that less than 30% of 964s on the road have had this work done. If you're looking at one, make sure you see evidence of what work was done as you will be paying extra for such a car.

If the car you're looking at doesn't have the distributor vent kit then get it installed after purchase along with new belts - doesn't cost much.

I bought my 1990 964 on the assumption that the DMF had been replaced because the car had done 90,000 miles. I think you'll find very few with the original flywheel unless they have low mileage.
