Up TSI beats vs Mii FR vs Citigo Monte Carlo
Discussion
They all seem exactly the same, but are they?
The Up! is by far the most expensive, but has a turbo charged engine and also looks the smartest (bar the tacky “beats” decals everywhere)
The Skoda has the least power (59bhp), the weakest residuals but it looks quite good with the bodykit and decals.
The SEAT is a marmite looking thing with the ugly headlights and taillights but its got a sporty looking bodykit and wheels, interior looks smart and also its a Seat. It’s a bargain compared to the Up. It has 75bhp which is not as much as the Up but more than the Skoda.
Which is the best buy? What are they like to drive? Driving position? Are they cheap feeling? Or avoid all of them and go for a new model Polo/Ibiza?

I replaced an ageing Fiat Panda diesel with a 2016 Citigo Colour Edition a few months ago. I need a small car for local house calls for my business.
I looked at other relatively new small cars, and came to the conclusion that one the VAG trio would be my best option. They just feel more "solid" and grown up than the Aygo (and it's French cousins) or the Korean offerings.
My local VW/Skoda/Peugeot dealer had about half a dozen used Up!/Mii/Citigo in stock. The Citigo was the cheapest/newest option, and I preferred the way it looked. I wasn't keen on the front end of the Up!, and the Mii is very bland.
This is the first small-engined petrol car I've owned for over 30 years, so it did take a while to get used to keeping the revs up to make progress. The 59bhp engine is actually quite torquey at low revs, as long as the road isn't too hilly. As long as I remember to change down a gear or two, it's perfectly fine keeping up with other traffic. No point trying to overtake up hills - it'll hold it's speed, but struggles to accelerate.
Fuel economy is excellent. Even on short journeys I'm getting very close to 60mpg (measured brim to brim). I got 62mpg out of the last tank - over 400 miles between fill ups for less than £40.
I'm 6'1", and I find the driving position fine. Plenty of leg and head room, and relatively comfortable seats. It's no long distance tourer, but on a couple of occasions I've been out in it all day, covering over 100miles visiting 6 or 7 customers, and it was fine.

My wife bought a Citigo Monte Carlo just over a year ago, it's the pre facelift model that was previously owned by a pher judging by the smilies on the rear quarters. It is s great car, really good on fuel, sits on the motorway no problem, handles nicely and even thought it only has 59bhp it is geared well so it doesn't feel slow. She loves the way it looks with the bodykit and wheels and the interior is a nicer place to be that the standard models we looked at
The wife has a Mii with the 59hp engine. It produces exactly the same torque/power up to approx 4000 rpm as the 75hp version. The difference in Hp is simply down to the mapping and a 59hp can be mapped to fractionally more than 75 if that took your fancy.
The main reason the 75hp may feel a little nippier in normal driving is that the final drive in the gearbox uses a lower ratio so it revs a little harder like for like in each gear.
Picked ours up about 2.5 years ago, was just over 2 years old with 6k miles for just over 5k from a dealer. Alloys, better standard stereo than the up or Citigo, A/C and the no longer used Garmin PID unit.
Love driving it, like being 17 again in a 1.0 using the momentum momentum momentum mantra! The three pot makes a nicer noise than most small 4 cylinder city cars too.
