Land Rover Defender purchase - worth it??

Values have gone up significantly over the last 2/3 years, with a few on autotrader at very low miles being offered for well over list price, may just be speculators though.
From driving my dad’s one (2013) they aren’t smooth and are pretty unrefined by modern standards but that’s obviously not the selling point. They do look good in my opinion, especially with some tasteful modification.
If you really want one then i would get in quickly.

Thanks for the info. I guess I’m also interested in whether I should buy a standard one, or the jazzed up ones like the modified ones like Urban Truck, Chelsea Truck company etc etc. I find quite a few around 2013 to 2015 I could spend money on, but don’t want to fork over 30-40k on something that’s jazzed up but no one will want to buy in 5 years time when the fashion of buying the non standard ones is over. Some have power increased, super leather seats, Momo steering wheels etc, so seem more luxurious.

I can give some insight here as I just purchased a 2.4 Puma 90 station wagon.
I spent months researching as there are hundreds for sale with different spec from factory and aftermarket. I chose XS factory spec as it has a lot of the mod cons that make things a little bit more comfortable for daily driving (air con, heated seats, higher trim level). The after market modifications which make them look better in my opinion are the lights, grill, wheels and black pack which I had applied prior to collection. I also had the whole underside sealed with rust proof coating.
Mine has one owner from new + me and low millage and I paid over factory new price, which can be hard pill to swallow but hopefully it won’t depreciate that much.
The drive is not inspiring or easy especially coming from a modern car but that is made up for by character. I may remap the ECU and up-rate the suspension but for now I’m content.
The Urban trucks are very special indeed as they do everything - interior, exterior, performance. If you have the budget then go for it!

Thanks for the help. Yours looks amazing. I have found plenty of the Urban Trucks in my price range. Some have a rare red colour and some a rare Scotia grey silver. Found one in X Tech spec, which is supposed to be quite good. A fair few in XS spec, so I’m glad for the insight on yours
I’ve owned a couple of 4x4’s before, but nothing like the Defender. I have a modified 2016 Golf R estate and a mk1 TT 240 QS, so the defender will be a different animal for sure, but knowing the way I drive then a slower car won’t be a bad thing

I've just bought my first Defender (Puma 90 HT) and love it. Yes the drive is a little challenging but that's the charm of it. Have come from a new LR Disco Sport/Merc GLC and a 911 (still own all three) and I have really taken to the Defender. In the process of changing a few things - fitting a Momo steering wheel 350mm has made a big difference IMO. Just add security. And lots of it.
